The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Research Technician in our Media Preparation core facility.

Responsibilities Include:

• Preparing reagents and media (yeast, microbiological) to standard specifications including pH, osmolality and antibiotic concentrations
• Modifying existing protocols to meet researchers’ requirements as needed
• Preparing and maintaining stock solutions for the media vending system
• Participating in the scheduling and delivery of finished products
• Troubleshooting new media formulations in cooperation with researchers
• Performing quality control checks on new raw materials
• Setting up and maintaining equipment and instruments
• Utilizing the LIMS system to organize, track and bill orders
• Assisting in the writing and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures
• Ordering raw materials and maintaining inventory
• Assisting with other duties as required

The successful candidate will have mastered a broad spectrum of basic laboratory techniques in general wet bench lab work and have excellent sterile technique; the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, as well as exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum Requirements:

• A Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Microbiology or similar life sciences
• At least one year of relevant scientific experience
