Seward County, KS is Hiring a Firefighter Near Liberal, KS

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a Firefighter to join our team. The primary responsibilities of this role include responding to fire and emergency incidents, providing medical assistance, and combating fires. These positions work under supervision to perform a variety of critical fire department functions including: firefighting, rescue, emergency medical response, patient care, fire safety inspections, preplans and public education.

Seward County Fire Department operates as 1 Battalion with 4 Engines, 4 Attacks, 3 Water Tankers, 2 Ladder Trucks, 3 Fire Stations. The Department serves 642 square miles and a population of 23,462. The Department serves the unincorporated areas of Seward County (Excluding the City of Liberal), The City of Kismet, Arkalon Park, Arkalon Ethanol Facility, River Valley Utilities, and USD 483.
**Qualifications:**

  • Must be at Least 18 years old and have a Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Strong physical condition to perform firefighting and emergency medical duties
  • Ability to work under pressure and in various weather conditions
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

**Responsibilities:**

  • Respond to emergency calls related to fires, medical incidents, and other emergencies in rural areas
  • Conduct fire suppression activities, including operating firefighting equipment
  • Provide medical care on-site and en-route to medical facilities
  • Participate in training sessions to maintain and improve skills
  • Maintain and inspect firefighting and medical equipment
  • Collaborate with other emergency responders and agencies to ensure efficient emergency response

**Requirements:**

  • Will be required to establish residency within Seward County within 90 days of job acceptance.

  • Drug / Alcohol Testing

** Additional Requirements:**

  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, to include on call and call back.
  • Must complete Firefighting 1, Kansas EMR, Driver/Operator, Hazmat FRO, IS100, IS200, IS700, IS800 and obtain a Kansas Class B driver license with in one year probationary period.

Applicants must successfully complete all hiring requirements prior to employment. Probationary recruits will be enrolled in an extensive orientation and field training/mentoring program and must successfully complete all core competency check-off requirements as a condition of employment. Following initial training, this position is expected to actively seek additional educational opportunities to expand their knowledge of modern fire practices and procedures. Ideal candidates will possess certifications for Firefighter Level I, Emergency Medical Responder, Haz Mat Operations, supplemented by formal training in firefighting techniques; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
