This partnership assists and enhances our children’s educational experience by providing our children a social and classroom environment. JOB DESCRIPTION: LEAD TEACHER

REPORTS PRIMARILY TO: Principal

SECONDARILY TO: Oak Grove Co-op Board

ROLE:

To create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth in keeping with the Oak Grove mission and values; to implement the co-op’s chosen curriculum in partnership with parents with the goal of motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for their education in higher grades in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish and maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Believes in the Oak Grove Homeschool Co-op mission and seeks to create a classroom culture in keeping with our values.
  • Provides an outstanding support base for committed homeschoolers who desire to do school in community and comes alongside families to create a classroom setting to enhance their home schooling experience.
  • Maintains Christian conduct and atmosphere, setting an example for a child to follow.
  • Works with the director and curriculum committee to develop the class syllabus and implement chosen curriculum.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction and uses a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
  • In cooperation with parents, evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports (at least twice per year).
  • Communicates well with parents through conferences, emails, texts, and other means to discuss student progress and keep the homeschool parent well-informed.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and/or interest centers.
  • Develops and implements encouraging, positive behavior management strategies for the group-learning environment and encourages students to be respectful, compassionate citizens.
  • Considers different learning styles and instructional methodology to the best of our ability, given that we do not have resources for all learning disabilities and differences.
  • Sets and communicates volunteer needs for the classroom throughout the year and schedule for any seasonal special events. Plans and coordinates with the designated volunteer committee for big classroom events.
  • Discusses problems, questions, desires, concerns and suggestions with the director.
  • Works with the other teachers, the standing committees, and the director in a team effort for the benefit of planning in all classes.
  • Arrives in room 15 min. prior to school opening for preparations to assure room readiness. Creates a daily instructional schedule for optimal learning. Puts room in order after children have been dismissed.
  • Reports maintenance and supply needs to the director and remains within school budget.
  • Has all requested calendars and paperwork ready in a timely fashion.
  • Assesses in-coming students when necessary to determine with the director the appropriateness for a good class experience academically, physically, socially, mentally & emotionally for the benefit of the entire class.
  • Remains in compliance with the Oak Grove Homeschool Co-op Handbook and policies.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Committed Christian with evidence of daily walk; willingness to sign the Oak Grove Statement of Faith.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.
  • Homeschool Experience Preferred.
  • Classroom Teaching Experience Preferred.
  • Desire to partner with homeschool parents in educating their children.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 18 – 22 per week
