Job Description

Our Mission:Innovation (“Innovation”) Charter High School nurtures and develops students to be academically successful, socially mature, emotionally healthy, and equipped to lead self-directed and fulfilling lives.

Summary of RoleThe Software Engineering Program (SEP) is a standards-aligned 9th-12th grade computer science course sequence offering classes in programming, app design, and game building, culminating in an Advance Placement (AP) course.

SEP is an initiative by New York City’s CS4ALL initiative to increase the number of high school graduates, particularly from traditionally underrepresented groups, that are ready to pursue new and emerging technology-driven roles across industries, and to develop student computational thinking and problem-solving skills.

Required Qualifications:● NYS teaching certification or a clear and short certification pathway
● Career & Technical Education (CTE) certification or certification pathway
● Fluent, or ability to become fluent, in Scratch, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python, p5js, and C
● Knowledge of physical computing, embedded electronics, 3D design and printing and robotics
● Knowledge of the AP Computer Science Principles curriculum is preferred

Major Duties and Responsibilities:● Implement inclusive instructional model:

○Collaborate with special education co-teachers to meet the mandates of
IEPs and to ensure that all students have access to the curriculum

○Create and implement lesson plans based on Innovation’s 3-tier model: core curriculum, experiential learning, and project-based learning

○Incorporate student goals, behavior plans, and interventions
○Employ lesson and unit plans that are standards-based and mission-aligned
○Report student progress and maintain accurate and up-to-date achievement records (adhering to standards-based grading practices).

● Adjust instruction based on student data:○Review classroom performance and examination data and adjust instruction to meet student needs
○Implement students’ IEP mandates and achieve IEP-related goals

●Develop professional skills to increase capacity to service students:

• Identify professional development opportunities, including the many in-house programs offered by Innovation
• Complete a minimum of 40 hours of professional development per year
• Participate actively in professional learning communities meetings
• Incorporate technology and digital learning skills into the classroom

● Provide students with mission critical support services:○Plan for project-based learning programs held during Innovation’s

Enrichment Week
○Host a minimum of two hours of weekly supplemental instruction (in school tutoring or open office hours to provide academic support services)
○Conduct a student advisory

● Additional duties as assigned by the Principal or their designee.

EvaluationTeacher performance is formally appraised during evaluation cycles that occur at least once during the school year. Appraisals are transparent, collaborative, intended to promote professional growth, and based on accomplishment of the goals and responsibilities outlined above.

Salary & BenefitsThis is a full-time position. Innovation teachers receive very competitive compensation and receive additional compensation for special roles and assignments. Uncertified teachers receive competitive compensation and an increase upon getting certified.
