JOB SUMMARY

Join our team at Full Circle Summer Day Camp, where every day brings new opportunities to inspire, empower, and connect with amazing kids. Full Circle Summer Camp serves children ages 5-15 who have a neurodivergent disability, including: Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, Sensory Processing, Anxiety, Bipolar, developmental delays, and beyond.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Establish positive rapport with children, parents, and other program staff.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with the Director in the planning, supervision, and implementation of all program activities.
  • Interact with kids at all times and participate in all activities with the children, be it indoor, outdoor, field trips, sports, crafts, games, free time, etc.
  • Role model leadership, character values and relationship-building skills in all interactions with children and their families.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and be prepared to make all parents, families, and children feel comfortable with all questions answered. Provide a warm, caring atmosphere for children ensuring all of them are treated equally with dignity and respect.
  • Assist in maintaining all equipment, supplies, snack inventories, appearance, and cleanliness of the program space in accordance with the school/site Formal Agreement.
  • Ensure the safety and whereabouts of all children and that safe conditions exist at all times.
  • Assist in maintaining all of the children's records/files and keep them in a designated staff-only location along with medications, first aid supplies, etc.
  • Assist in ensuring all requirements are being met & accurately complete required forms (e.g. fire/safety checklist, accident forms, sign-in/out sheets, etc.).
  • Implement and maintain the YMCA discipline program that inspires positive behavior and discourages conduct that is not aligned with the Ys character development values.
  • Encourage respect for personal property, YMCA equipment, and facilities.
  • Attend all staff meetings/in-services and required training sessions.
  • Act according to facility protocol to ensure the safety of all staff and children which includes:
    • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children.
    • Attend required abuse risk management training.
    • Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
    • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
    • Ensure children are properly signed in and out, ensure only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc.
    • Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked, routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker rooms and bathrooms), etc.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND TRAINING
  • Camp staff must be at least 16 years of age.
  • At least three months experience working with school-age children and must genuinely enjoy working with children.
  • Must be mature, have good communication skills, enjoy working with children and planning a variety of activities, and be able to relate well to children, adults and school/site staff.
  • Prior experience working/volunteering with children is required; experience with working with those living with cognitive disabilities is recommended.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to actively engage with students and move about freely within the facility and outdoors to guide students through activities in program areas and participate in games and sports (with or without accommodations).
  • The ability to move about freely throughout the facility to monitor child activities and ensure the safety of all participants.
  • The ability to lift 10 pounds, move furniture and equipment, chairs and tables; engage in active children's games, sports and other activities is required.
  • This is a very active position, on the move a great deal.

  • Developing Others: As a role model to your student group, you have an important role to build, engage, inspire, and develop your students and hold them accountable. Provide students with feedback, information, guidance, and support. Utilize non-threatening methods to address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance.
  • Quality Results: Because there are many aspects to the work, you need to stay organized and manage time effectively and flexibly. Be a good steward of the Y by following and enforcing policies/procedures, achieving performance goals, and using resources wisely. Strive to meet or exceed goals and deliver a high-value experience for students.
  • Decision Making: The ability to respond appropriately to sensitive situations, behavior issues, and emergencies is a necessity in this role. Think creatively to determine when and what activities need to be altered to maintain student engagement. Provide students with frameworks for making decisions and healthy habits.
  • Safety: You are responsible for ensuring the safety of your assigned group. Conduct programs and activities in a manner that ensures student safety, follow and enforce safety precautions, and report concerns or injuries timely. Closely monitor attendance of each student to ensure all are accounted for and check-in/out procedures are followed.
  • Mission Advancement: As a cause-driven staff, you will support the Y, its members, participants, and staff by living the Ys values of CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT, and RESPONSIBILITY in all interactions and aspects of job performance and demonstrate the desire to serve others and fulfill community needs.

Remain calm in challenging situations. A willingness to accept feedback and make corrections is essential. Pursue professional development opportunities and attend staff meetings and training enhance job performance. Maintain all required certifications. Must maintain high level of confidentiality.
