Are you looking for a way to make a difference? The Dominican Learning Center, a ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, is seeking qualified candidates to manage its English as a Second Language (ESL) program and support other activities sponsored by the center. The Dominican Learning Center is dedicated to serving adult learners seeking to improve their basic academic skills, receive a GED diploma, or learn the English language. Supported by devoted volunteer tutors, the center’s learners seek to improve their lives, move ahead in their jobs, become more active in their communities, or attain American citizenship.

Role: As the ESL Program Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the program, including maintaining records, recruiting and supporting tutors and learners, selecting coursework, and implementing learning solutions to help learners achieve their goals. This is a full-time position with some evening and weekend hours needed to meet the needs of the learners and tutors.

Qualifications:

· A bachelor’s degree in education, reading/literacy, adult education, human services, social work, or a related field;

· 3-5 years’ experience in teaching, education administration, adult education, or a related field is preferred;

· Previous program management experience is desired;

· Bilingual in English/Spanish and knowledge of the Catholic faith will be considered assets.

Position Summary: Responsible for managing the English as a Second Language (ESL) program and supporting other programs offered through the Dominican Learning Center. Will identify program needs, select coursework, and implement learning solutions to enable current and prospective students to achieve their educational goals. Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of the learners and tutors. Responsible for identifying new learners/tutors, ensuring the completion of the enrollment/intake process for both learners and tutors, maintaining thorough and timely documentation of records, implementing retention initiatives, and providing appropriate guidance, resources, and referrals to promote learner and tutor success.

Essential Functions:

· Identify curriculum, best practices, books and other materials needed for assigned programs.

· Develop and conduct tutor and learner orientations and training, and effectively match tutors with learners.

· Work with the Director to identify the financial needs of the program.

· Communicate with tutors on an ongoing basis to identify and resolve tutoring related issues.

· Oversee the registration and assessment of prospective learners for level placement.

· Provide tutors with ongoing training and support.

· Collaborate and engage effectively with team, tutors, and other managers to implement strategies that promote student success and growth.

· If required, reach out to parishes to determine options for program partnerships, and assist in providing initial training and ongoing support to teachers and site coordinators at the partner sites.

· Ensure learner attendance records are maintained, and learners are contacted when they are repeatedly absent.

· Be able to connect with learners in a culturally sensitive and welcoming manner.

· Support the tutors in the areas of professionalism, curriculum, instruction, culture, and customer service. Maintain the records of service for all tutors.

· Coordinate pre and post-tests for learners.

· If required, assist learners preparing for GED tests.

· Collect and maintain confidential documentation regarding learners’ personal information, test scores, attendance, and progress.

· Assist Director in preparing grants and monitoring and recording the expenditure of grant funds.

· Assist in planning and participating in teacher/tutor recognition events.

· Demonstrate an understanding of the charism of the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

· Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

· Excellent computer skills including the ability to use various video conferencing platforms, input data, and develop reports. Familiarity with Microsoft Office is required.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Second language proficiency is preferred.

· Strong public speaking skills, along with the ability to develop and conduct effective group presentations.

· Ability to conduct coaching and professional development.

· Excellent understanding of curriculum across subject areas and adult learner standards.

· Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.

· Strong organizational and management skills.

· Knowledge of and/or experience with grant funding policies/procedures.

· Ability to effectively interact with individuals with various social, cultural and academic backgrounds.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s Degree in education, literacy, adult education, human services, social work, or a related field.

· 3-5 years experience in teaching, education administration, adult education, or a related field is preferred.

· Previous management/supervisory experience is desired.

SCOPE OF POSITION: Directly reports to Director of the Dominican Learning Center.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.50 - $21.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
