The City of Brockton seeks an attorney to serve as Assistant City Solicitor. Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Massachusetts. This position is appointed by the Mayor and reports to the City Solicitor. The Assistant City Solicitor assists in representing the City in all legal proceedings and serving as corporate counsel to the Mayor, department heads, and other city officials. Duties include conducting legal research, advocating on behalf of the City in state and federal courts, representing the City before state boards, commissions and other state agencies, commencing and prosecuting legal actions on behalf of the City, preparing and responding to litigation pleadings and discovery, participating in labor negotiations and resolving union grievances, rendering legal opinions, advising municipal officers, departments, commissions and boards, preparing responses to public records requests, and drafting and reviewing municipal contracts.
