Position Overview

The Plant Manager is a hands-on, proactive, strategic thinker whose skills contribute to the efficient, systematic, and profitable operation of the company’s production department. The Plant Manager is responsible for achieving the forecasted production levels of quality product while ensuring a safe work environment. The position provides overall leadership and direction to direct reports responsible for production; leading, directing, and participating in all production, safety, housekeeping, and training activities of production employees to safely ensure on-time production and delivery of quality products. The Plant Manager leads and develops the production team using Lean Manufacturing principles. The position is responsible for implementing strategies to increase efficiency, maintain quality, and ensure continuous improvement. The Plant Manager is a production professional responsible for ensuring that all daily operations of the plant run smoothly and effectively. Focus on operational excellence and cost reduction are to be achieved by employing best practices across the plant to realize consistent business results. Drives a culture of "Work Hard, Work Safe, Work with Respect" with actions and words every day; encouraging the team to "Do What is Right, Not What is Easy - the First Time."

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Safety, Grounds, Housekeeping

· Commits to plant safety policies and procedures and ensures compliance with all company, local, state, and federal policies, and regulations.

· Ensures that all employees are properly trained in safety and that there is a continuous and daily effort to ensure compliance with all OSHA/MIOSHA safety standards.

· Always ensures that there is a clean and organized manufacturing work environment.

· Performs routine safety checks on equipment; ensures production machinery complies with professional and safety standards.

· Performs regularly scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and safety testing.

· Oversees grounds keeping to ensure the facility’s outdoor areas are neat, presentable, and compliant with local, state and federal requirements.

Production

· Responsible for the daily production operations of the company and all its components including production output, product quality, and on-time shipping.

· Continuously evaluates plans and resources to maximize production capability to ensure the plant is reaching its goals to ensure delivery of high-quality products that meet customers’ needs.

· Ensures appropriate production rate and achievement of targeted levels of daily and weekly volume of quality product is produced, and that inventory and shipment targets are met, reducing delivery delays.

· Identifies any bottlenecks or delays in production; ensures necessary labor, materials, and other resources are available to relieve production bottlenecks and delays.

· Uses production planning and scheduling to limit materials shortages.

· Collaborates with leadership team to verify, review, maintain, and report on materials and production inventories.

· Completes hands-on maintenance tasks and schedules maintenance and repair of machines, production tools, and equipment used in the production process to avoid downtime or delays.

· Determines labor needs to meet production goals.

· Minimizes downtime; addresses issues by establishing root cause and coordinating with leadership team for solutions.

· Works with leadership team to implement new or revise current products, services, and procedures: labeling, packaging, costing, etc.

· Manages material usage, production output, labor cost, and scrap rate.

· Ensures the proper staging of material at each work center for continuous production of quality product across all shifts.

· Schedules run orders for all machines.

· Schedules blade changes and equipment cleaning.

· Oversees the plant’s shipping and receiving functions.

· Develops systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.

· Produces monthly reports of labor, material, and machine efficiency; reviews reports to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

· Recommends optimal production solutions and equipment needs.

· Collects and reviews data to reduce inefficiencies and waste.

· Identifies and recommends cost controls and other improvements to production processes.

· Collaborates with finance department to allocate resources effectively; creates and implements budgets and strategies (using forecasting models) in alignment with the company’s annual strategic plan, discusses with leadership team and adjusts as needed to achieve goals.

· Stays up to date with latest production management best practices, concepts, trends, and technology.

Quality

· Ensures implementation of quality standards; maintains and improves process efficiency and quality standards adherence.

· Regularly reviews customer complaints and corrective action requirements.

· Collaborates with sales department to identify and resolve quality concerns.

· Holds regular meetings and reviews to ensure quality systems are working as intended and to facilitate corrective actions wherever necessary.

· Develops and drives continuous improvement initiatives.

Employee Training and Development

· Builds and maintains a trusting relationship with employees.

· Implements tactics aligned with strategic initiatives, providing a clear sense of direction and focus.

· Assists with, develops, or prepares and updates, all operations procedure manuals and ensures compliance with related policies.

· Ensures all employees are trained in their core responsibilities and know how to execute their job duties.

· Responsible for staff adherence and improvement using Lean Manufacturing principles.

· Ensures proper training on setup, quick cleans, and full cleans to ensure equipment is always in running order; continuously evaluates ways to surpass standards.

· Collaborates with human resource department to determine Key Performance Measures (KPIs) and measures them regularly.

· Communicates with employees about performance expectations.

· Evaluates employee performance and motivates to achieve peak productivity.

· Addresses employees’ issues or grievances in alignment with company policies and procedures.

Education and Experience

· 10 years’ experience working in a plant / production environment (manufacturing) .

· 5 years’ experience in a management / supervisory role

· Previous working experience as a Plant Manager required. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Plant Manager or equivalent Leadership role preferred.

· Associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, business management or administration, industrial management, engineering, logistics, supply chain or related field preferred.

· Experience working in recycling or plastics production preferred.

Language Skills:

· The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Ability to create, compose and edit written materials.

· Ability to clearly and effectively present information to all levels of Company employees, as well as individuals outside of the company by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person as required.

· Excellent written and verbal communication

Mathematical Skills:

· Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, discounts, area, and volume, to practical situations and perform any necessary calculations.

· Ability to interpret financial data to set production goals.

· Knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory, and stewardship processes

· Possess working knowledge or personal computer, in particular proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook.

Work Hours and Benefits

Monday – Friday 6:30 am-3:30 pm (may need to arrive earlier or stay later as needed; must be flexible to work an alternate schedule as required).
