BEC Fiber, a division of Bandera Electric Cooperative, began offering 100% fiber broadband in 2017 and currently provides fiber internet service to more than 10,500 subscribers in eight counties in the Texas Hill Country.

Our Member Services department is looking for a Member Relations Representative who will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to our member-owners and personifying the Cooperative’s Core Values. The Member Relations Representative is the primary point of contact for members’ electric, fiber, energy services and general inquiries. The individual in this position receives and processes troubleshooting calls and provides support for outages and member issues. Actively listening to members and identifying their needs. Recommending and cross-promoting products and services to members and potential members.

Customer Service and Member Relations

  • Primary point of contact for members seeking assistance with new and/or existing service applications, billing, service orders, and general inquiries
  • Adheres to accepted standards of professional behavior
  • Delivers courteous and consistent results
  • Identifies and promotes products and services
  • Responsible for day-to-day functions and activities for all products and services of the cooperative as directed by the Member Relations Manager or Team Lead including but not limited to:
    • Responding to general inquires
    • Processing of return mail
    • Processing service orders
    • Processing cash or electronic payments either received by mail, in-person, or digitally
    • Open, balance and close cash drawer daily and accurately and timely
    • Investigating and resolving or escalating membership and payment issues
    • Documenting all inquiries and maintaining accurate membership records
    • Maintaining member’s personal and contact information on accounts
    • Ensuring all legal documentation is uploaded to member accounts
    • Providing support for outages or other emergency situations as required
  • As a member of the Cooperative team, you are expected to provide information and attend meetings as instructed by management. These meetings will include, but are not limited to, the Annual Meeting, safety meetings and training, and employee meetings and trainings
  • Knowledge of all BEC governing documents
  • Other duties as required to support the Member Relations Manager in delivering exceptional customer service to all member

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to handle delicate situations with exceptional diplomacy
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs
  • Proficient knowledge of office equipment (fax, copier, scanner, calculator, etc.)
  • Knowledge of retail billing, payments, and collection procedures and general accounting principles
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Organizational skills to enable the completion of numerous simultaneous tasks
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Education

  • High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) certification required
  • Associate’s degree in Communications, Business, Accounting or a related field preferred

Experience

  • 6 months to 2 years of customer service or office experience preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and Related Insurance
  • Must pass background and drug screening

Working Conditions

The working conditions for this position include an indoor climate-controlled office environment with minimal health and safety hazards. This position requires the ability to read and work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, multitask, perform complex/varied/simple/repetitive tasks with precise attention to detail. Must have the ability to control the work pace, follow instructions, influence people, handle confrontational situations, and work alone or in a group. Position may require irregular or overtime hours and occasional travel to other locations within the Cooperative.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands for this position are generally considered to be low and include sitting at a desk, using a computer and office equipment such as phones, printers, and scanners for prolonged periods of time. This role may require the individual to occasionally reach, bend, or lift light objects such as files or office equipment. This position may require the individual to have fine motor skills to operate office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. The individual may be required to input data into spreadsheets and software which requires good hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
