JOB DESCRIPTION
MFG Chemical, Inc.

Job title Product Development Chemist

Job purpose

As a Product Development chemist, the purpose is to study, understand, and report how MFG products perform in laboratory and pilot evaluation procedures versus competitive products.

Duties and responsibilities

  • · Perform laboratory and pilot applications testing to study MFG product performance versus competitive materials.
  • · Conduct mass/volume and molarity calculations in development of evaluation test procedures.
  • · Write detailed procedure steps and completely document results.
  • · Develop expertise and utilize common laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • · Prepare written reports, conduct data analysis, and develop presentations utilizing MS Excel, Powerpoint, Word.
  • · Maintain a clean, safe laboratory environment.
  • · Record laboratory process and test results in appropriate laboratory notebook
  • · Assist in trouble shooting processes
  • · Assist Quality Control in corrective actions on existing commercial chemistries
  • · Communicate and coordinate activities with customers as needed
  • · Develop analytical test methods as needed
  • · Participate in safety, PHA and technical meetings
  • · Present a professional attitude and appearance
  • · Maintain analytical equipment as needed
  • · Improve existing laboratory processes where applicable.

Qualifications

The minimum qualifications required to successfully perform this job include:

  • A bachelor degree from an accredited college /university in a field of science.
  • Knowledge of chemical processes
  • Knowledge of chemical laboratory techniques
  • Knowledge of instrumental analysis techniques
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication in the English language.

Working conditions

  • Majority of work will be performed in a laboratory with associated risks as expected in an industrial laboratory. Conditions include but are not limited to: chemical odors, slippery surfaces, fragile glass ware, equipment with moving parts, hot surfaces, and compressed gasses and hazardous chemical are occasionally used in the production areas.
  • Hazardous chemicals are sometimes used in the course of lab work
  • Task appropriate PPE is required at all times
  • Occasional work in the chemical production area of the plants is required.
  • This work will involve exposure to hazards associated with an industrial chemical production site.
  • Microbial cultures may be used in the laboratory

The conditions can be, but not limited to: slippery or uneven surfaces, chemical odors, climbing ladders and stairs, temperatures from <32°F to >100°F, fork lift traffic, hoses, various chemical storage vessels, moving parts, hot surfaces. Hazardous chemicals are occasionally used in the production areas.

Physical requirements

Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of items about 50 pounds is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
