Porter Gaud School is Hiring a Summer Camp Nurse - RN Near Charleston, SC

Substitute School Nurse- Registered Nurse (RN)

Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, coeducational day school for 1,040 students in grades 1-12. The School is seeking a Summer Camp Nurse - RN for the Camp Cyclone summer program. Camp sessions begin the week of June 3rd through June 28th and then again July 8th through August 2nd. This is a temporary position that will conclude at the end of camps. Hours for this position are from 9am-4pm, Monday - Friday. Free lunch is included everyday

The Summer Camp Nurse will provide health services to campers and summer camp employees for both acute care visits and for following chronic conditions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Treat illnesses and injuries of campers within the RN Scope of Practice to include determining method of treatment per guidelines, maintaining confidentiality, documenting, and notifying parents, guardians, and/or Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers. Remain with and give comfort to the ill or injured student until released to the parent/guardian. Offer comfort measures to students with minor discomforts.
  • Observe and report any unusual behavioral finding or unsafe student activity to the Director of Auxiliary Programs.
  • Assist in administration of medications according to physician and parent instructions per School Medication Administration Policy/Guidelines; prepare related documents; communicate with physicians and parents to obtain authorization forms; notify parents of prescription refills as needed.
  • Maintain the health office in a clean, orderly and safe condition; dispose of biomedical waste and hazards according to established procedures; assist in maintaining inventory and notify School NP/RN if any supplies are needed. Ensure medications are secured in double locked cabinets.
  • Assist in maintaining student health records and accident reports including treatment records/logs, emergency information, immunization records, medical history, and allergy information to include computer data entry of information while assuring confidentiality at all times. Ensure all information is documented clearly, accurately, and legally.
  • Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases through providing preventative immunization programs, early detection, and surveillance reporting and follow-up of contagious diseases.
  • May need to assist with employees' acute and chronic care.
  • Maintain professional standing through required continuing education to increase professional competence and to meet personal needs and goals.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software; use a variety of medical equipment and instruments as assigned.
  • Perform a variety of clerical duties; type a variety of reports, correspondence, forms, notices, and referrals; maintain files and duplicate materials as needed.

Job Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university is preferred ; An Associate's degree in Nursing is the minimum requirement
  • Active nursing licensure in SC
  • Current BLS CPR certification
  • Prior RN experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Solid nursing knowledge base and familiarity with policy and laws is required in order to identify and "triage" immediate needs and provide required interventions.
  • Ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with all internal and external constituencies of the School.
  • Ability to act as a team member and to exhibit initiative to benefit Porter-Gaud School.
  • Proven ability to take initiative, to be resourceful, make sound nursing judgments and present self in a tactful and courteous manner
  • Accuracy, integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to exhibit prompt, reliable, and sustainable attendance.

Salary: The hourly rate will be commensurate with experience and will range from $25.00 to $30.00 per hour.
