The Mammography Technologist is responsible for detecting breast tissue abnormalities by completing mammographic imaging studies, presenting them for diagnosis and performing basic x-ray exams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Greets patients by confirming patient identification, reviewing imaging request, checking for special instructions, confirming anticipated service with patients
- Conducts mammography by positioning, adjusting compression mechanisms, instructing patients.
- Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures; developing mammograms; observing mammogram results; determining necessary adjustments for optimum results; retaking mammograms as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation
- Must be familiar and have experience with electronic medical records. Documents patient mammograms services by completing patient record charting
- Accountable for adherence to state and federal rules and regulations on safety and quality assurance.
- Ensures compliance with MQSA, federal, state and local agencies.
- Periodically reviews image quality and exam protocols.
- Maintain accurate department records, reports and files for the two clinics.
- Keeps mammography supplies and patient drapes ready by inventorying stock; placing orders
- High School or equivalent required
- AAS Radiology and ARRT certification in Radiology and Mammography
- SCRQSA (South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association)
- Five years of clinical experience
- Training in 2D/3D Mammogram, Hologic qualified preferred
- Current BLS-CPR certification required
