Elementary Behavior Intervention TeacherJob Qualifications:Required Qualifications:•Standard Exceptional Child Certification endorsed for Generalist K-12. •Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.PRIMARYRESPONSIBILITY TO:PrincipalSECONDARYRESPONSIBILITY TO:Director of Special ServicesJOB GOAL: The Elementary Behavior Intervention Teacher will support the school’s initiatives with positive behavior supports and programs. This program will facilitate a robust instructional and learning environment for at-risk students with severe behavioral needs. In addition, the Elementary Behavior Intervention Teacher will work directly with identified students to adopt behaviors that substantially increases their academic performance. Such students include those who, as part of a team decision are identified as needing substantial supplemental behavior intervention and support. Under the supervision of the building principal, the Behavior Intervention Teacher provides diversified strategies and activities specifically designed for targeted students.Instructional and Learning Environment Responsibilities: oPromote highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which “at risk” students thrive: behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated and provides ample practice.oSupport conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions. oModel good assessment processes that assist students in assessing their own work and behavior.oProvide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors. oContinually supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive.oEngage in ongoing professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for targeted students.oConsult with school guidance counselor, principal, parents and teachers regarding student instructional needs and progress. oComply with all safety policies, practices and procedures; report all unsafe activities to supervisor. oParticipate in proactive team efforts to achieve District, building, departmental and/or grade level goals. oModel positive verbal and nonverbal communication with students.oProvide an atmosphere in which students are motivated to remain on task and are expected to reach behavioral goals.Professional Responsibilities:oMaintain a record-keeping system and documentation that shows individual student progress toward behavior, academic, and social goals as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.oBe professional and confidential with student records.oAdhere to and enforce school law, state board regulations, Board policy, established administrative procedures, and the Professional Code of Ethics.oRespect individual student rights and confidentiality.Communication Responsibilities:oPresent information clearly in both oral and written form.oWork cooperatively with building administrators, individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on:•Crisis intervention•Learning and collaboration issues•Factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions •Promote positive student behavior by assisting with professional development that targets research, strategies and modeling of instructional practices.oProvide positive feedback.oProvide opportunities for students to express themselves.
