About the Geo-Economics Initiative
The Milken Institute’s Geo-Economics Initiative helps policy, business, and civil society leaders navigate the rapidly evolving global economic landscape. The Initiative focuses on three priority areas: rewiring globalization, harnessing innovation, and catalyzing climate finance, while enhancing regional competitiveness and modernizing global, national and local economic frameworks. Our work is informed by the MI Finance Geo-Economics Leadership Network and leverages the Institute’s private investment, public finance, and local community networks to advance sustainable and equitable market-based solutions to pressing US and global challenges.

About the Position

Reporting to the Senior Director for Public Finance, the Geo-Economics Director will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Lead MI Finance research and policy programming on international economics.
  • Direct and manage key components of MI Finance economic competitiveness and sustainable growth programs.
  • Partner with MI Finance climate experts to develop and advance domestic and international initiatives to accelerate the energy transition and increase investment in adaptation and resilience.
  • Produce written outputs including reports, white papers, articles, and op-eds.
  • Provide thought leadership, including by representing MI Finance at conferences, meetings, and workshops as a speaker and panelist.
  • Maintain and grow MI Finance partnerships with key external organizations to advance core objectives. Develop and expand stakeholder and sponsor networks.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with other MI pillars to advance MI Finance objectives.
  • Engage in domestic and international travel as required.
  • Assist in the development and execution of NGI’s research and policy agendas, including collaborating internally and externally with thought leaders, policymakers, and practitioners;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree required;
  • At least 5 years in post-graduate level work experience in public policy, finance, business, law, real estate, impact investing or economics preferred.
  • Knowledge of U.S. and international trade, finance, and economic policy;
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills;
  • Research, analytical, and financial modeling skills a plus;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across MI Finance and other MI teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and be proactive.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
  • Experience working in multicultural environments;
  • Knowledge of finance, financial markets, and supply chain policy.
  • Knowledge of municipal finance, public sector budgeting and/or climate infrastructure finance and policy a plus.
  • Excellent writing, editing skills, research, analytical, and financial modeling skills.
  • Demonstrated overall communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and high standards of excellence.
  • Management and foundation fundraising and/or government research contracting experience a plus.
  • Public speaking and event moderation skills a plus.

Working Conditions & Travel Requirements
This position will work in a professional office environment. This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.

This position will work a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to your respective office location (Tuesday – Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely. Please understand, this schedule is subject to change in the Institute’s sole discretion.
