Job Summary

Under the supervision of a licensed clinician, conducts professional mental health assessments; provides counseling, case management and psychotherapeutic services, and performs related activities for clients and their family members in a range of mental health care settings.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide direct outreach to Tribes and youth surrounding mental health/behavioral health issues and substance use treatment
  • Consult and collaborate with mental health providers on the assessment and treatment of psychological disorders, substance use disorders, and psycho-social problems
  • Perform behavioral health screening, triage, evaluation, and assessment to determine appropriate level of behavioral health care
  • Implement evidenced-based therapeutic methods, including cognitive behavior therapy, contingency management
  • Participates in treatment team, staff, and professional meetings to discuss client progress.
  • Provide crisis intervention and behavioral health interventions
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families to encourage adherence with medical and behavioral health issues
  • Consults and/or counsels patients regarding various mental health programs in the community including schools and incarcerated patients.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate referrals to existing community resources when indicated by assessed need
  • Assists families, teachers, and/or related program personnel to develop better resources, communication, and impact in areas pertaining to mental health.
  • Assists with alcohol & sexual abuse programs, as needed to enhance services for patients.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Prepares and regularly maintains progress notes, closing, and/or transfer summaries on clients and related duties as required.
  • Provides specialized services to the Behavioral Health Department, such as special program coordination and management.
  • Conducts intake interviews with new clients, as well as assesses and/or diagnoses client needs.
  • Conducts individual, group, and/or family therapy sessions.
  • Assists in developing community resources for preventive mental health services.
  • Acts as a liaison between the mental health clinic, school personnel, parents, children and/or various committees and programs.
  • Conducts seminars and/or workshops to inform the community about behavioral health problems and services as it relates to the Native American community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Masters Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related discipline from an accredited educational institution or within one year of completion.
  • Must be licensed as or in the process of becoming a: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT).
  • Current State of California licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
  • Two (2) years of experience providing counseling services.
  • Proof of valid driver license, with a clean driving record.
  • Current CPR/First Aid, or ability to obtain within three months of date of hire.
  • A combination of experience, education, and training may substitute for degree requirements on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Five (5) years of experience providing counseling services.
  • Current State of California licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT).
  • Indian Preference applies to all Consolidated Tribal Health Project (CTHP) positions in accordance with CTHP Policy and applicable federal law.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of theories and research on personality and intellectual growth and development, individual differences, human motivation, and abnormal behavior.
  • Knowledge of interview techniques, as well as current trends in the mental health field.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal resources.
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Tribal culture and lifestyle, working effectively with American Indian/Alaska Native populations.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants.
  • Skills in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software.
  • Ability to perform counseling services with limited supervision and within a framework of standard policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal and tribal privacy laws, as well as CTHP policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
  • Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $76,500.00 per year
