POSITION DESCRIPTION: Support Worker use their own lived experience in providing culturally humble and trauma-informed services to young adult’s ages 18-21 with the intent of furthering the young adult’s treatment goals and stabilizing their placement. The level of services provided varies based on the needs of each client. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

  1. The candidate is required to have:
  • Must have graduated from high school, or obtained their GED; Associates Degree or higher level of education from an accredited university is preferred
  • Experience as a service recipient or caregiver of a service recipient of Children’s Behavioral Health Services, Child Welfare Services, the juvenile justice system, or special education, and/or parenting experience and/or experience with substance use/abuse.
  • Experience as a youth educator and experience providing culturally humble services to diverse populations is preferred
  • Capacity to work independently in the field, willingness to work collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills, professional demeanor and strong organizational skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred 
  • Original High School Diploma or GED must be provided
  • California (or other state) Valid Driver’s License required

EMPLOYEE STATUS: Part-Time NON-EXEMPT

SHIFT: 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM and Saturday and/or Sunday

SALARY RANGE: $20 - $24 (Will be commensurate with education and experience.)

PRIMARY SUPERVISOR: Program Director

Requirements

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The selected candidate will work closely with Transitional Housing Program Social Workers and staff to assist in providing support services to young adults placed in the THPP NMD and THP Plus Housing Programs. The selected candidate will also use their own lived experience to help provide education and guidance to clients who are parenting and/or struggling with substance use and/or their mental health.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  1. Assist Youth in developing social, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  2. Assist residents to resolve problems and identify ongoing services necessary to help residents resolve problems.
  3. Provides education, support, and hands-on coaching to parenting youth or youth struggling with their mental health and/or substance use. 
  4. Assists in coordinating services for youth i.e. signing up for a class or providing transportation
  5. Develops and conducts parenting training groups, youth support groups, and other psycho-educational groups and workshops as assigned by supervisor.
  6. Document the NMD weekly progress at home, school, and/or work, major incidents, and other significant, collateral contacts. 
  7. Utilizes supervision, consultation, and training to provide high quality services in an effective manner.
  8. Communicates regularly and provides updates to the youth’s assigned Walden Social Worker about the youth’s progress and current needs
  9. Ensure a safe, clean, organized, living environment. Supervise as well as participate in household cleaning and maintenance activities.
  10. Assist Youth with independent life skills (ILS).
  11. Assist residents to resolve problems and identify ongoing services necessary to help residents resolve problems.
  12. Assist the Housing Manager with housing tasks when needed.
  13. Maintains strong commitment to Walden’s vision and values in the services provided to youth 
  14. Maintains availability to work evening and weekend hours, as scheduled, to meet the needs of youth
  15. Assist with transportation of youth. 
  16. Other duties as assigned by Walden THPP NMD/THP Plus Program Director
