Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center provides comprehensive care for patients with hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder medical conditions and injuries. There are 11 highly-skilled and well-recognized surgeons in the practice and 22 highly-skilled hand therapists.

We currently have an opportunity for a full-time Preoperative Assessment Nurse for our main location.

Preoperative Assessment Nurse Overview:

The Preoperative Assessment position is responsible for a selection of physicians assigned in accordance with physician workload. This position requires competent assistance in serving as an integral part of each assigned physician team. Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing quality care by facilitating the efficient flow of patient care and ensuring each surgical candidate is evaluated completely and accurately.

Preoperative Assessment Nurse Responsibilities:

• Ensures that all correspondence is processed in a confidential and timely manner and is not exposed to or accessed by unauthorized persons. Ensures strict patient confidentiality and that all correspondence is recorded within appropriate electronic health record (EHR).
• Serves as a resource for interpretation of medical and surgical information to all departments.
• Initial Surgical Patient Assessment - Receives and reviews surgical requests via EMR and performs full surgical assessment to determine surgical location, consulting Anesthesia where appropriate.
• Completes History and Physical with patient following office visit.
• Determines if patient requires clearance(s) prior to surgery. Communicates with patients' primary care and/or specialist physicians(s) to obtain clearance and communicates plan to patient.
• Final Surgical Patient Assessment - Provides final assessment and approval of preoperative History and Physical and procedure information.
• Prepares and provides final Preoperative Packet to appropriate location (complete with all applicable clearances, cultures, labs, arranging COVID testing as needed ect.) for all surgeries.
• Completes and sends all necessary Preoperative information required for all external facility surgical procedures to applicable external facility.

Preoperative Assessment Nurse Requirements/ Qualifications:

• Licensed RN/LPN
• Minimum of 1 - 2 years of Preoperative Assessment experience
• Requires excellent organizational skills and the ability prioritize and efficiently manage all responsibilities
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills
