ROOF ABOVE

Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,300 individuals every day across nine campuses in Charlotte). Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.

THE FELLOWSHIP

Roof Above’s newly formed Fellowship Program offers recent college graduates and early career professionals a period of focused work to obtain invaluable learning and direct hands-on experience working to end homelessness in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg county. Fellowship positions are available throughout the organization offering a wide range of focus areas. In addition to mastering the essential duties and responsibilities, Fellows will have an assigned mentor who will offer guidance, wisdom, and work with the Fellow to determine additional opportunities to learn about the broad scope of non-profit work. Fellows work full-time for Roof Above for one-year, with an option to continue for a second year. A salary and comprehensive benefits package is offered to all fellows.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• Demonstrated leadership capability and potential with an interest in public service or civic engagement
• Highly collaborative style with sincere commitment to collaborate with all constituent groups
• Self- starter who is able to work independently and enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Well-developed critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage a variety of initiatives concurrently
• Attention to detail and timelines
• Comfortable in multiple settings, particularly those that are low barrier
• Interest in working with various stakeholders including staff, volunteers, donors, and clients
• Have a bachelor’s degree by start date

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Depending on the focus area, Fellows will be assigned to one of Roof Above’s nine campuses.

Position requires evening and weekends as needed.

Fellows are required to be on campus most days.
