Teacher Assistant Details
  • Position is full-time (40 hours per week), 9 months per year (mid August to mid May). Summer hours may be available through HIT, Inc.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • This person will work in the classroom of 3 to 5 year olds as part of a teaching team.
  • Children attend four days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) and staff have one day (Wednesday) for prep and training.
  • Experience with ages 3 to 5 a plus!
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus!

Job Description Summary
Assists the teacher in providing a nurturing, safe, consistent learning environment to enhance the skills of every child. Aide in the preparation of materials for daily activities and adhere to the cleaning and sanitizing requirements to ensure a clean working and learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Adapt to the social, emotional, physical and cognitive developmental needs of each child. Assure the developmental progression of all children.
  • Contributes to documenting observations, gathering and organizing portfolio work samples, completing assessments, planning weekly lesson plans, etc.
  • Monitor the cleanliness and organization of the classroom to ensure the safety and mobility of each child.
  • Assist with implementing curriculum to meet the required Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Be a good role model and build positive, professional relations with the children and families.
  • Understand and promote school readiness for children.
  • Assist in the active supervision of children to ensure safety at all times.
  • Be able to quickly adjust to changing work environments and take on a more leadership role when the teacher is absent.
  • Promote parent involvement in the program.

Education

Minimum requirement is one of the following:

  • Teacher Assistant I ($16.55/hour)
    • At minimum have a high school diploma or GED and enroll in Child Development credential (CDA) program to be completed within two years of being hired; or
    • Already enrolled in a CDA program to be completed within two years of being hired. Head Start covers the cost of obtaining your CDA.
  • Teacher Assistant II ($17.66/hour)
    • A current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
  • Teacher Assistant III ($19.86/hour)
    • An associate or baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
