Job Description

The Product Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and executing our product initiatives. This position will lead opportunities for strategic direction and development of AI solutions, with the goal of focusing and enhancing our offerings to multiple customers. In collaboration with our technical teams, this position will play a key role in integrating the latest AI technologies into our solutions, ensuring we continue to offer unparalleled value to our customers. Ideal candidates will have a strong product background with an interest and passion to define products that address and support needs of the Department of Defense (DoD). This position embraces and represents SoarTech Core Values (Innovative, Honest, Customer Focused, Respectful, Integrity, and People) in all aspects of their duties and responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages assigned projects to ensure technical and financial objectives are achieved through the efficient allocation of resources, effective subcontractor management, comprehensive risk management, etc.
  • Develops customer trust and maintains strong professional relationships with current and prospective customers.
  • Articulates and presents product strategies leading to solutions that continuously and incrementally improve product culture.
  • Develops and maintains a product roadmap, prioritizing features and enhancement based on customer needs, market trends, and business objectives.
  • Leads the charge in continuously discovering and validating customer problems and market opportunities.
  • Integrate market analysis, research, and usability studies into product requirements.
  • Identifies gaps and works collaboratively with engineers, scientists, and leadership to bring new product capabilities and offerings to life.
  • Appraises new product ideas and strategizes appropriate go-to-market plans.
  • Defines and analyzes metrics that inform the success of products.
  • Communicates frequently with supervisors, management, and peers to ensure adequate flow of information and awareness to meet deadlines and deliver the work product.
  • Drives the product and business-planning processes across cross-functional teams.
  • Communicates regularly with stakeholders to retain consistent vision and alignment.
  • Supports the PMO as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • At least six (6) years of product management experience in agile software delivery (at least 3 years during which you’ve owned the significant product area from product strategy to roadmap to feature execution.)
  • At least ten (10) years of program management related experience, preferably in the defense industry.
  • Expertise with typical project management (planning and control) systems and tools such as: Contract and Subcontract Management, Systems Engineering Process, Integrated Master Plan, Integrated Master Schedule, Work Break Down Structure, Earned Value Management System, Agile Project Management, Integrated Baseline Review, Periodic Program Reviews, Major Milestone Reviews, Capture and Proposal Plans, Internal Budget Development and Business Case Development. Proven ability to guide a product development process.
  • Experience working with engineers and scientists in a hands-on capacity as a product manager, engineering manager, or similar role.
  • Experience with lean and agile software development methodology.
  • A demonstrated history of becoming an expert in an unfamiliar domain.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills for strategy, roadmap and feature decision-making and prioritization.
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to listen to customer needs, translate them into actionable product requirements, and collaborate with engineers and scientists to deliver market-ready products that align with both customer and business objectives.
  • Solid understanding of product development methodologies, including research, human-centered design, and Agile software development.
  • Possess strong communication (both oral and written), organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Proven experience in mentorship and team development.
  • Demonstrated experience working with geographically distributed team.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.

Preferred Skills

  • An advanced degree in a related field; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience with government clients, AI, and data visualization platforms.
  • Previous experience working with product teams.
  • Prior experience with defense research organizations.
  • An active Department of Defense (DOD) Security Clearance.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or other relevant certifications.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to support business development related activities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
