Volunteer with Emmanuel Hospice!

Emmanuel Hospice is a nonprofit, community-based hospice provider serving a 50-mile radius from our Grand Rapids office, wherever patients call home. We help our patients, and their loved ones focus on living with whatever time they have remaining.

We are seeking dedicated volunteers to provide compassionate care to our patients in a variety of ways.

Volunteer Roles

o Patient and Family Support: provide direct companionship to patients

o Pet Visitor: visit patients with your dog (at least 1 yr. old, and with you for 6 months prior)

o Vet-to-Vet: visit patients one-on-one and share your veteran experiences

o 1:1 Art Facilitation: work with patients on a simple art project (drawing, painting, knitting, etc.) You don’t have to be an art pro!

o Administrative: support our volunteer programming by filing, uploading docs, and putting mailings together. This can be done from home or in our office!

o Bereavement Support: work with our Bereavement team to check in with family members of patients who have passed and occasionally help with mailings. This can be done from home!

o Patient Check-in Caller: support our patients from home by calling to assess their needs for the weekend. This can be done from home!

Volunteer Requirements

o Reliable transportation with valid state driver’s license and current car insurance

o Kind, compassionate, and emotionally mature

o Submit a background check and fingerprinting

o Submit annual flu vaccination and TB testing

o After being contacted, participate in an interview with Volunteer Coordinator, then complete initial volunteer training and orientation.
