Red River Commodities is Hiring a Mill Operations Near Fargo, ND

Red River Commodities processes sunflowers and select other specialty crop agricultural products to create food ingredients. We source the highest quality raw seeds and other crops from reliable growers and then our valuable team uniquely processes those crops to fit our customer’s needs. We are currently searching for a reliable Mill Operator to join our 1st shift team.

Summary

Candidates will be expected to learn how material comes in and goes out of the mill, assist with multiple areas of operation and help with mill housekeeping and maintenance. This position monitors and adjust various aspects of the grain mill equipment to ensure optimal performance and plant is achieving desired results. This position also safely provides sanitation and basic maintenance in all areas of the plant. Must be willing to learn and perform all job duties within the plant.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Gathering seed samples, sorting, and sizing seeds and comparing to standards to ensure plant is meeting requirements and operating optimally.
    • Requires climbing 5 flights of stairs several times per day to collect samples
    • Work around moving parts/equipment.
  • Communicate verbally over radio or in-person with mill operators to ensure plant is running correctly and safely.
  • Process necessary paperwork and use computer programs to insure proper material flow.
    • Enter date obtained into computer system and compare to standards, communicate results to mill operators.
    • Use computer program to start or stop various parts of plant based on communication from mill operators.
    • Maintain accurate production and FDA records, entering data into Excel spreadsheet.
  • Assist with maintenance and keeping mill clean and free from excess dust accumulation including:
    • Completing various maintenance work activities: lubricating, changing belts, etc.
    • Sweeping dust and grain (up to 5lbs)
    • Shoveling grain (up to 25lbs)
    • Cleaning (brushing down/blowing with air wand)
  • Be willing to cross-train in other areas of production/maintenance at the mill.

Qualifications:

  • Previous grain mill, food manufacturing or seed cleaning experience preferred but not required, general knowledge of mill operations, is a plus.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to read, write, communicate, and understand English.
  • Ability to critical thinking to plan and problem-solving skills and recognize critical areas of the mill control feed/ingredient system. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, have good decision-making skills and willing to take directions.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting over surfaces.
  • Able to work in dusty/dirty environments, in all weather conditions and temperatures as well as be able to work at various heights including elevated open grate flooring (higher elevations).
  • Must perform tasks in accordance with GMP Policies and Procedures and all Food and Safety Procedures and Understand and follow safety rules and wear proper PPE.
  • Forklift experience preferred, but not required.
