Since our founding, we’ve constantly sought to find new ways to pursue greater economic justice: from providing fair and affordable loans, to working with partners to demand that lawmakers change unjust policies.

We are seeking a Climate Capital Director to join our Executive Staff Team in Durham, NC!

WHAT You'll DO:

  • Develop and implement strategic investment initiatives aligned with the goals of the National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF) to address climate change and foster economic empowerment, particularly in Justice40 communities and Low-Income and Disadvantaged Communities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify and evaluate investment opportunities, conducting thorough due diligence and risk assessments to ensure alignment with program objectives.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of investments, monitoring performance, and impact metrics to drive positive outcomes for both investors and communities.
  • Cultivate partnerships with community organizations, industry leaders, and policymakers to maximize the fund's impact and advance environmental justice and economic equity.
  • Liaise with the Environmental Protection Agency Office of Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund staff to ensure program impact and compliance.
  • Coordinate with Climate United, our partners, to leverage resources and expertise in addressing climate change and promoting a just transition.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the Climate Capital team.
  • Represent Self-Help at conferences, workshops, and other events to raise awareness and build networks within the environmental finance and economic justice communities.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management, board of directors, and external stakeholders, highlighting the fund's achievements, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Act as a change agent to drive Self-Help’s economic inclusion initiatives by integrating supplier diversity and the use of businesses owned by women and people of color in third party contracting and vendor management for relevant products and services
  • Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary.

WHAT You’ll NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public policy, community development, finance, economics, or a related field OR equivalent related experience; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7 years’ of experience in structured finance, climate resilience, investment management, or related field, with a proven track record of success in driving impact investment strategies.
  • Deep understanding of economic justice, climate finance, and community development principles.
  • Strong commitment to our mission – creating economic opportunity for traditionally underserved communities.
  • Preference for working in organizations that place priority on teamwork and collaboration
  • Prior supervisory experience coaching and leading.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing teams and driving organizational change in a complex mission-driven organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly in serving Justice40 communities and Low-Income and Disadvantaged Communities.
  • Ability and willingness to work beyond normal work hours, as needed.

Compensation:

Competitive nonprofit compensation, based on experience, plus a generous benefits package. Salary range for Oakland, CA: $122,900-$150,279.
