We are seeking candidates for the position of Construction Equipment Operator 1st Class (1261) - Regional Rail in the MOW/Track Department.

Compensation Data

Pay Rate: $33.02/hr. Increase to $36.69 after 1 year.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

As an experienced operator, drives, operates and maintains equipment such as gradall, cranes, hydraulic excavators, front end loaders, backhoes, material handlers, automotive trucks, including tractor trailers, dump trucks, and special function trucks with hi-rail attachments such as log loaders, roto dumps, and boom trucks.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Drives and operates equipment such as gradall, cranes, hydraulic excavators, front end loaders, backhoes, material handlers, etc. Operates various attachments required.
  • Drives and operates automotive trucks, including tractor trailers, dump trucks, and special function trucks with hi-rail attachments such as log loaders, roto dumps, boom trucks, etc.
  • Must be able to perform running maintenance on equipment including lubrication, replacement of fluids to proper level, check tire pressure and clean equipment.
  • Subject to call outside of normal working hours.
  • Directs and assists activities of lower and other classes as required.
  • Inspects and maintains rigging and lifting apparatus.
  • Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.

  • QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
    • Must have a valid CDL Driver's License Class “A” with tanker/hazmat endorsements. Air brake restriction removed. Track Department employees are not exempted from this requirement.
    • Must have at least two years previous experience operating tractor-trailers and strait trucks. Also must have two years of experience operating construction equipment, including hydraulic cranes, backhoes and loaders.
    • Must be able to drive manual transmission with no restrictions. Must be able to pull a trailer.
    • Must have No restrictions (E, K, L, O, X ,Z) and must pass DOT physical.
    • Must qualify on City Transit Division operating and safety rules.
    • Must satisfactorily complete written and performance test as required. Must have current ICC physical.
    • Must possess tools pertinent to the occupation.
    • Must successfully pass pre-qualifying exercise to determine ability to safely operate a tractor trailer and construction equipment.
