Interior Designer I in Grand Rapids , Michigan **Responsibilities**

The Interior Designer, under supervision of a manager or team leader, assists in all phases of interior design projects for full scale design, including pre-design, conceptual design, space planning, signage, project coordination, CAD document production and contract administration, and liaising with clients and consultants for various projects.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:**

The Interior Designer contributes to the growth and success of Ghafari Associates by achieving the following overriding objectives:

* Exhibits initiative, eagerness to learn and take on new responsibilities, responds well to mentorship management, and training, and continuously shows professional growth through performance contributions.

* Assists with the development of pre-design solutions.

* Assists in developing various specifications for materials, finishes, fixed equipment, construction time and cost.

* Assists with and/or handles the selection of furniture systems, fixtures and equipment.

* Assists with developing the interior design content for the design development package including prototype samples as necessary.

* Coordinates document requirements with design team and corresponding plan and drawings.

* May assist with project reports and analysis documents such as field reviews, client summaries, program analysis etc.

* Attends on-site visits and field reviews to become acclimated on our methods, style, and approach to working with outside contractors and vendors.

* Develops good communication with internal team members, clients, and external partners:

* Effectively articulates interior design ideas to the client and project team.

* Maintains contact and clear communication with the client at various levels of project work.

* Reports schedule and budget deviations to the Project Manager and client on a timely basis.

* Coordinates work with other disciplines to deliver a cohesive high quality design result.

* Prepares design presentation materials and participates (under mentorship of senior interior designer) in highly effective verbal presentations to clients.

* Learns and exhibits the ability to effectively understand and translate the clients needs, goals, and aspirations.

* Coordinates and prepares quality working drawing contract documents, sketches, plans, details and schedules, using AutoCAD or REVIT software.

* Develop basic understanding of building codes and construction regulations.

* Presents a professional image through appropriate business attire, personal appearance, and ability to carry and project themselves in a professional manner.

* Maintains knowledge of current trends and introductions of furnishings.

* Follows Ghafaris project process standards and best practices.

**Qualifications**

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:**

* A bachelors degree of Interior Design from accredited college or university.

* Approximately 0-2 years of experience.

* Basic knowledge of principles of sustainability, universal design, and LEED guidelines.

* Demonstrated ability to design projects of a routine nature individually or on a team.

* Basic working knowledge of Construction Document production and construction materials.

* Proficiency in the technical skills of interior design including the following computer skills:

* Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook

* Proficiency in AutoCAD

* Proficiency of Sketch-Up, Adobe Creative Suite, and other graphic software

* Proficiency in Revit preferred

* Consistent background of good team collaboration skills and results.

* Possesses high level of creative talent in conceptual design and rendering skills of both hand sketching and computer modeling.

* Ability to express (and show) a passion for building and maintaining client relationships and providing exceptional customer service.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including preparing and performing presentations.

* Strong design skills demonstrated in portfolio, as well as the ability to clearly articulate design solutions.

* Must thrive in a fast-paced environment.

* Willingness to learn and grow, including working towards NCIDQ certification.

**OTHER:**

* Overtime may be required.

* Domestic travel may be required.
