Description

The Lead Design Drafter will take products from conception through final production. This position will be responsible for gathering drawings and specifications, calculating material and equipment requirements and setting up production methods as well as designing new or special products. This position will provide production with modifications to the standard line of equipment, taking into consideration the established engineering specifications regarding size, capacities, performance and any other important requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Utilize SolidWorks to perform applicable drafting work including layout drawings and fully detailed manufacturing drawings and specifications. 
• Follow ECR/ECO Process to accurately document and design or documentation changes through Production
• Perform tolerance calculations to determine required dimensional tolerances. Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing where appropriate.
• Apply mechanical aptitude and knowledge to determine basic size, material, and configurations.
• Prepare or revise Bills of Materials
• Work closely with Purchasing to obtain price quotes for parts.
• Work closely with Quality to ensure ISO 9001 requirements are achieved.
• Plan and execute projects ranging from minor drawing changes to designing and documenting new components and assemblies.
• Create and maintain product documentation and test data & reports 
• Work closely with Engineers, Sales, and Manufacturing to analyze and plan projects.
• Complete other duties as assigned 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to work within a cross functional team
• Basic knowledge of LEAN manufacturing
• Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time with competing priorities
• Basic knowledge of sheet metal, tubing, welded assemblies and molded plastics
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ERP software 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Requirements

• Associates degree in Mechanical Technology program or two years equivalent work experience
• 3 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment 
• 3D CAD knowledge
• Experience with SolidWorks, preferred
• Previous experience with 3D modeling, preferred
