Grants Manager
Reports to: Chief Development Officer
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Supervisory Responsibilities: No
The Grants Manager is a member of the development team and oversees all aspects of our grant-seeking and grant management activities. The Grants Manager will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities, preparing grant proposals, managing grant budgets and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in grant writing and administration, excellent communication skills and a passion for the arts, music in particular.
Primary responsibilities:
Develop a thorough knowledge of the Nashville Symphony its mission, history, culture, vision, programs and governance structure and is able to clearly communicate its mission and needs
Create and implement a comprehensive foundation/government/corporate grant development plan and budget, engaging with colleagues to identify needs, opportunities and funding budgets
Manage the existing government and foundations portfolio and grants calendar
Research, identify and pursue potential new grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations and other funding sources
Write and prepare grant proposals, applications and reports; ensure timely submission of all grant requests and reports
Collaborate across organization to gather information and data for proposals and advise management on opportunities
Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting deadlines
Provide status reports to Chief Development Officer, Senior Staff and others as appropriate
Monitor and evaluate grant-funded programs and projects to assess impact and effectiveness
Create year-end reporting for both internal and external audiences
Stay informed about trends and best practices in grant writing and fundraising
Additional responsibilities:
Manage charitable solicitation permit application process
Manage organizational overview and narratives on GivingMatters.com, Guidestar.org and Charity Navigator, and other web sites as needed
Leads research strategy and procedures, including support for prospecting for individuals, corporate and foundation leads
Assume responsibility for special projects or other activities as directed by the Chief Development Officer and Vice President of Development
Stay informed of local, state and federal news as it pertains to arts funding, communicates news, participates in arts advocacy efforts/activities
Other duties as assigned
Requirements and qualifications:
Bachelors degree required
Two to three years experience in grant writing or comparable writing-intensive profession; experience in a cultural arts organization or nonprofit sector preferred
Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills; ability to handle multiple projects and priorities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and grant management software (e.g. Fluxx, Foundant)
