Pasadena Unified School District is Hiring a Preschool Mandarin Teacher/Assistant Summer Position Near Pasadena, CA

This position is for a 6 week Mandarin Preschool program from June 10 - July 12, 2024. No school June 19th, and July 4th.
Those assigned to the Mandarin Early Childhood Program will work 4-8 hours/day.
Salary is based on actual hours worked.

DEFINITION

Mandarin assists teachers at District Preschools and Children's Centers in a variety of program activities; may perform work of a routine clerical nature as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS

REQUIRED: Fluent Mandarin Spearker.

Experience: One (1) year experience working with preschool children (preferred) and/or school age students in an organization setting or learning environment equivalent setting.

Education: Must possess a secondary (i.e., high school) school diploma, or its equivalent (GED).

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (or higher). Applicants must upload a photo of high school diploma or transcripts showing awarded diploma, GED, or degree.
  • Immunization records of immunization against influenza, pertussis, and measles

*Unit/Degree verification (including equivalency of foreign degrees) must be submitted with the online application as an attachment in the form of unofficial transcripts. Equivalence of foreign degrees must have been reviewed and verified by a regionally accredited foreign degrees review agency.

1596.7995.
(A) (1) Commencing September 1, 2016, A Person Shall Not Be Employed Or Volunteer At A Day Care Center If He Or She Has Not Been Immunized Against Influenza, Pertussis, And Measles. Each Employee And Volunteer Shall Receive An Influenza Vaccination Between August 1 And December 1 Of Each Year. (2) If A Person Meets All Other Requirements For Employment Or Volunteering, As Applicable, But Needs Additional Time To Obtain And Provide His Or Her Immunization Records, The Person May Be Employed Or Volunteer Conditionally For A Maximum Of 30 Days Upon Signing And
Submitting A Written Statement Attesting That He Or She Has Been Immunized As Required.
(B) A Person Is Exempt From The Requirements Of This Section Only Under Any Of The Following Circumstances:
(1) The Person Submits A Written Statement From A Licensed Physician Declaring That Because Of The Person'S Physical Condition Or Medical Circumstances, Immunization Is Not Safe.
(2) The Person Submits A Written Statement From A Licensed Physician Providing That The Person Has Evidence Of Current Immunity To The Diseases Described In Subdivision (A).
(3) The Person Submits A Written Declaration That He Or She Has Declined The Influenza Vaccination. This Exemption Applies Only To The Influenza Vaccine.
(4) The Person Was Hired After December 1 Of The Previous Year And Before August 1 Of The Current Year. This Exemption Applies Only To The Influenza Vaccine During The First Year Of Employment Or
Volunteering.
(C) The Day Care Center Shall Maintain Documentation Of The Required Immunizations Or Exemptions From Immunization, As Set Forth In This Section, In The Person'S Personnel Record That Is Maintained
By The Day Care Center.
(D) Section 1596.890 Does Not Apply To A Violation Of This Section.
(E) For Purposes Of This Section, "Volunteer" Means Any Nonemployee Who Provides Care And Supervision To Children In Care.

Special license or language skills:

The ability to read, write and speak another language, in addition to English, such as Armenian or Spanish, is highly desirable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this class include but are not limited to:

  • Sets up and organizes facilities, equipment and materials for daily use
  • Assists children and parents upon arrival, may assist in collecting fees, documents, etc.
  • Assists teacher(s) in supervising children and their activities during directed and free play time, nutrition periods, nap time and bathroom duties, i.e., toileting, changes of clothing, etc.
  • Assists with reporting injuries, illness or suspected child abuse cases to teacher
  • Assists teachers in program activities by working with individual and small groups of children
  • Uses various classroom equipment, etc.
  • Prepares and serves snacks and lunches at nutrition periods, cleaning up afterward
  • Assists in maintaining an orderly, clean and sanitary facility
  • Sets up cots for naps and folds and stores them after nap time
  • Attends staff and in-service training meetings as directed
  • Assists parent volunteers
  • May perform routine clerical duties such as sorting mail and keeping necessary records
  • Performs other related duties as required
