Description

Foundation for Blind Children (FBC) is a high profile, nationally recognized non-profit in Phoenix, Arizona. Celebrating our 70th Anniversary, FBC serves over 2,000 blind and visually impaired students of ALL ages, from birth to currently 102 years old on three Valley campuses. Our preschool for blind children and braille library are the largest in the country. FBC is currently seeking qualified candidates for a full time Family Navigator position supporting the Early Intervention Program and other family support services. This position is based at our Central Campus in Phoenix. The Family Navigator provides support and resources to the families of FBC’s students and clients. This position acts as a representative of FBC and develops collaborative relationships with community partners. The Family Navigator participates in the facilitation and coordination of family educational and support activities.

Job duties include:

  • Offers rapid response (within 48 hours) when a family member has requested assistance from the Family Navigator
  • Maintains a current list of contacts within agency for specific needs, questions, and program support
  • Connects family members with experts within the agency and with other community resources based on their needs
  • Coordinates community training, workshops, and events for family members. May include some weekend and evening events.
  • Participates in the coordination of FBC’s Family Support and Education program
  • Provides confidential emotional support to family members of FBC students and clients.
  • Stays current regarding trends and developments in support as it relates to BVI/MD individuals and related family issues.
  • Empowers families to make informed choices that are right for them. Discusses options in an unbiased and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Participates in periodic program needs assessments and evaluations based on measurable outputs and outcomes.
  • Participates in the development of short- and long-range planning to meet the needs of FBC families.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development, including reflective supervision
  • Develops and maintains relationships with community organizations.
  • Supports the development of resource guide on the FBC website.
  • Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, human services, or related field
  • Three years of experience in family support and coordinating resources in social services, human services, or relatable environment, preferably with special needs individuals and their families
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, keep appropriate records, and develop effective programmatic communications with supervisory guidance
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills (e.g., nonjudgmental, objective, reflective, empathic, patient, tactful).
  • Experienced in group facilitation, event coordination, and program expansion
  • Familiarity with sensitive issues impacting families of individuals with a disability, including but not limited to poverty, gender bias, domestic violence, alcohol and other drug abuse, cultural and racial diversity
  • Ability to drive and travel independently
  • Valid and current Arizona Driver’s License
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card, or ability to obtain clearance

This position may travel up to 25% of the time locally, up to 10% of the time in other areas of Arizona.
