Position: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Division: Health Services Department: Clinical Services Reports To: Director of Clinical Operations Location: Omaha Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: Grade 7 ($17.52-$26.70) Classification: Full-time Summary: The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe with its ancestral homeland located in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe does not have a reservation in the classic definition; rather, the Ponca Restoration Act defined its jurisdiction as a 'Service Delivery Area' comprised of 15 counties throughout parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Within its Service Delivery Area, the Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services. Responsible for assisting Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurses in the examination and treatment of patients, in a manner that promotes quality patient care. Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Actively participates with team members in the delivery of physical and psychosocial dimensions of patient care.
Prepares exam rooms and equipment to facilitate treatment and examination of patients by setting up instruments/equipment and stocking supplies, per provider protocol.
Prepares patient for provider exam by reviewing medical records, weighing patient, checking vital signs, performing medication reconciliation and obtaining information relevant to patient care.
Assists providers to facilitate patient treatment by retrieving tests and medical records and obtaining lab work as directed .
Assists and/or performs phlebotomy with proper labeling and handling of specimens.
Ensures accuracy of verbal/point-of-care (POC) order entry and completes appropriate documentation without error.
Assists with dressing changes, minor procedures. (i.e., skin biopsy, electrocardiogram reports, pulmonary function testing, minor gynecologic procedures).
Dispense/administer medications/injections to patients as directed by provider.
Recognize significant changes in patient condition and take appropriate action.
Assists nursing staff and Community Health Representatives with the completion of patient referrals.
Assist in other areas of the clinic including administrative functions as directed.
Inspects and maintains equipment condition according manufacturer specifications.
Assists in maintaining room cleanliness and supply inventories.
Other duties as assigned.
Relationships and Authority: This position has no supervisory duties. Working Environment and Physical Demands: This position is located within an outpatient medical clinical setting. Works throughout the clinic area. Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during work hours. Qualifications: Minimum:
High School Diploma or GED
Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.
Competency in phlebotomy procedures
Able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within three months of hire date, if not already certified
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Valid driver's license and be insurable.
Successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.
Able and willing to travel.
Preferred:
One-year experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
First Aid and CPR Certified.
Knowledge and understanding of Public Law 93-638: Indian Self-Determination Act.
Special certification and/or experience as required by area.
One-year experience working with Native Americans or Native American organization
Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe. However, all qualified individuals are eligible.
