Position Summary

Sport Management. Department of Sport Studies at Guilford College is seeking qualified candidates for a tenure track position; which included, program director of the International Sport Management Master's (ISMM) program and instructor in the undergraduate Sport Management major to begin August 15, 2024. The Department is pursuing someone with the expertise to teach topics such as sport finance, sport marketing, sport communication, organization & administration of sport & exercise programs, sport sociology, and other topics in both the undergraduate and master programs. The College also welcomes individuals with an integrated perspective reflecting the intersection of sport management and other sub-disciplines of kinesiology (e.g., fitness/recreation management). Additionally, the college encourages collaboration with our other masters' programs in Business Administration, and Criminal Justice. Candidates should possess a doctoral degree in sport management or a related field; ABD's with firm completion date will be considered.

Candidates' primary interest must be in teaching undergraduate and masters' students. The teaching load is 3/3, the equivalent of 12-credit hours per semester. Candidates should have demonstrated classroom teaching success, ability to service diverse populations, relevant work experience, and potential for relevant scholarly activity. Department-related responsibilities include (a) teaching courses in the sport management master's and undergraduate programs and potential related areas of expertise; (b) identifying, cultivating, and supervising internships; (c) academic advising, and (d) program director of the ISMM program while also assisting with the undergraduate courses. Additional responsibilities include ongoing assessment and revision of the sport management curriculums.

Applications should include a cover letter, current vita, statement of teaching philosophy which includes discussion of the intersection between one's scholarly focus, copy of transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. Review of applications will begin December 1st and will remain open until filled.

The Sport Management Program, founded by Herb Appenzeller, at Guilford College was one of the first in the nation. Sport management students have interned locally with organizations such as the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Greensboro Coliseum and Aquatics Center, Greensboro Sports Commission, two MLB teams, and four NCAA Division I athletic teams. Greensboro offers unique opportunities outside of its metropolitan area due to its close proximity to Charlotte (80 miles) and Triangle region (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill - 80 miles).
