The Infant/Toddler Teacher is responsible for all aspects of the care and education for assigned children; provides direct delivery of center-based Early Head Start (EHS) services for infants and toddlers including physical caregiving, developmental assessments, and implementing age-appropriate curricula. Serves as the primary teacher for assigned children and ensures safe and healthy learning environments and individualized learning activities for enrolled children. Overall, the Infant/Toddler Teacher contributes to the CHS high performance culture by exhibiting our values and providing quality results that position CHS as the leader in delivering proactive behavioral health, case management, community and early childhood solutions for children and families.

Primary Job Functions

1. Create an open, friendly, and cooperative atmosphere in which children and families feel comfortable and secure.

  • Provide the safety of each child at all times through active supervision, effective arrangement of space and materials, and proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Carry out childcare routines in a manner that is respectful, prompt, hygienic, and consistent with best practice.
  • Observe children to detect signs of illness, injury, abuse, neglect, emotional disturbance, or other special needs, and report these signs immediately to the Center Director or designee.
  • Operate and maintain the classroom arrangement, appearance, decor, and cleanliness providing compliance with all licensing, Office of Head Start (OHS), and other local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Regularly observe and evaluate children's development and document progress on individual and school readiness goals.
  • Plan and submit complete lesson plans, goals, and resources, as assigned.
  • Plan and implement age- and developmentally-appropriate experiences that promote physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development through conversation, play, and creativity, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Interact positively with each child throughout all aspects of the daily routine.
  • Promote and nurture parent-child bonding and relationships.
  • Inform families about their childrens experiences through daily contacts and regularly scheduled home visits and parent conferences.
  • Serve as a role model for the children and families, treating them with dignity and respect.
  • Complete all daily food service documentation as required by the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Maintain confidentiality with respect to children, families, and team members in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Conducts screenings and assessments in accordance with the programs Performance Standards.

2. Contribute to a positive, engaging work environment.

  • Develop a strong knowledge base and stay current on job-related issues and trends.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, training and education, as well as the quality process.
  • Comply with CHSs code of conduct, policies, procedures and other obligations.
  • Assist with training other team members and providing back up when necessary.
  • Pick up projects on the fly; perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
  • Demonstrate the CHS Common Bond values in the performance of all job duties.

Job Qualifications

Education, Licenses & Certifications:

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential with Infant Toddler Endorsement or equivalent college coursework, preferred
    • If you don't have a CDA, we can assist you by earning it through our apprenticeship program
  • Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education, preferred
  • Bilingual, preferred

Experience:

  • Experience working with children ages birth to three
  • Experience in these related fields/titles welcome: Teaching, Mentoring, Social Work, Substitute, Foster Care, Child Supervision, Coaching.

Knowledge of:

  • COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Skills and Proficiency in:

  • Planning, project management, organization and time management
  • Oral and written communication
  • Collaboration, teamwork, consulting, facilitation, coaching and mentoring
  • Computer systems and MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook

Ability to:

  • Perform at a high level of autonomy, with general supervision.
  • Perform under strong demands in fast-paced, diverse, sometimes ambiguous environments.

  • Be sensitive to service populations cultural/socioeconomic characteristic.
