Job Title: FHTMS Classroom TeacherLocation: FHTMSJob Group: EducatorPay Level: ExemptReports to: PrincipalSummary: To create an age appropriate learning program and a positive and engaging class environment thataddresses the academic and social-emotional needs of all students. Helps students attain identified skill and learningtargets and fosters each student’s skills, knowledge, and ability for a successful learning experience. Establisheseffective relationships with students, parents, staff and community members to enhance learning opportunities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.1. Plans and delivers classroom instruction by:a. Developing proficiency-based lesson plans and instructional materials.b. Providing individualized and small group instruction and implements a universally designed curriculum tomeet the needs of all students. Plans and conducts activities that balances and provides opportunities forobservation, questioning, and investigation.c. Creating lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate learning experiences using a variety oftechniques that are engaging, relevant, and meet the educational and emotional needs of each student.d. Employing educational strategies to improve the development of analysis, synthesis and evaluation skills,language, cognition and memory.e. Plans and coordinates the work of employees, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.f. Establishes, teaches and maintains rules for behavior, employing techniques grounded in middle schoolbest practices and research to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.2. Assesses and monitors learning by:a. Using a variety of methods and adjusts instruction accordingly to individual student needs.b. Evaluating student academic and social growth, keeping appropriate records, preparing progress reports,and using data to inform instruction.3. Recognizing student needs and communicates regularly with others by:a. Connecting with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, e-mails, conferences.b. Identifying student needs, developing strategies for individual education plans and making referrals asappropriate.c. Being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day asneeded.4. Maintains accurate and complete student records, and prepares reports on children and activities as requiredby laws, district policies and regulations.5. Instruct students in citizenship and core subject matter using current best practices and as specified in state lawand administrative regulations and procedures of the school and district.General Responsibilities: Supervises classroom employees, students and volunteers. Monitors student disciplinethrough an appropriate classroom management program. Regular attendance in accordance with established workschedule. Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule. Demonstrated ongoing commitmentto workplace diversity, sustainability, and delivering exceptional customer service.Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty satisfactorily. Advanced work in assigned subject matter preferred.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Vermont Teaching License (K-12 or 5-9), with middle schoolendorsement for subject area.Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret textbooks, periodicals, professional journals, technicalprocedures, and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write lesson plans, reports, correspondence, andprocedures. Ability to effectively present information individually and in group settings and to respond to questionsfrom students, parents, staff and the public. Ability to use a variety of assessments for student work.Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference andthe fundamentals of algebra and geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, andproportions to practical situations. Ability to use a variety of assessments for student work.Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situationswhere only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,diagram, or schedule form.Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program;ability to plan and implement lessons based on school and supervisory union objectives and the needs and abilitiesof assigned students. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents;skilled in oral and written communication.
