Job Description
Public Finance Investment Banking Analyst
The Public Finance Analyst will work with the Chicago-based public finance banking team to provide support for broad coverage responsibilities of municipal issuer clients. Analyst will provide analytical and transaction support on municipal bond financings, assist in the development of proposals and presentations, provide general support to the initiatives of senior team members, and facilitate the new business development process. Analyst must have the ability to work long hours - while maintaining a positive attitude, multi-tasking and meeting strict time deadlines. A strong desire and ability to learn technical and business development skills is important.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
•Draft and prepare effective client pitch books and requests for Proposals/Qualifications.
•Prepare detailed memorandums describing financing ideas and opportunities.
•Research industry and market trends, running and analyzing data.
•Research municipal issuers, their financial condition, capital needs and revenue sources.
•Create and monitor databases of client and prospective client outstanding bonds for refinancing opportunities.
•Develop and analyze complex financial and debt models.
•Develop financial analyses for bond issuance including revenue models, amortizations, debt profiles and the analysis of refinancing and borrowing using Excel, Munex and DBC bond sizing software.
•Act as a point of contact for the finance team throughout the financing process.
•Lead the internal processing of new issue financings.
•Work with senior team members to create marketing and sales materials.
•Prepare case studies on completed transactions.
•Attend client meetings and conferences with senior bankers (as requested).
Qualifications
•Interest in public sector and municipal finance.
•Ability to multi-task, work independently and collaborate in teams.
•Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
•Knowledge, or ability to learn, web-based applications, and specialized information systems, including EMMA, Bloomberg, TM3, Adaje and DBC bond sizing software.
•Knowledge of finance and accounting principles.
•Ability to prepare and deliver clear, effective and professional presentations.
•Competence in clearly and effectively communicating in both oral and written formats.
•Ability to regularly work long hours, beyond standard business hours.
•Ability to travel by car and/or air in conjunction with local, regional and/or national travel, up to 20%.
Education And Experience Requirements
•Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics or related field is strongly desired
•Minimum Required: 3-5 years' related experience desired (Associate)
Licenses and Credentials
•Minimum Required: FINRA Series 52 and 63 or ability to obtain within 12 months
•Position requires FINRA licensing. The firm will provide adequate self-study test preparation materials needed to obtain required licensing.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain required FINRA licenses within a 12-month period. Inability to obtain said FINRA licenses will be terms for termination.
Salary Range
•$75,000 to $95,000 Discretionary Year-End Bonus
