Towson University is Hiring a HVAC Mechanic II Near Towson, MD

Job Summary

The HVAC Mechanic II installs, services, and repairs components of commercial and industrial heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. This role is critical for working on various size pumps, residential and commercial heat pumps, and industrial centralized air conditioning systems. Systems may contain several zones.
Responsibilities and Duties
•Installs, operates, services and repairs air conditioning equipment of all kinds. Diagnoses, test, repairs and replaces complex internal chiller controls and auxiliary components of a total system.
•Operates, service and repairs air handling, hydronic pumping systems of various designs and variant refrigerant flow units (VRF)
•Troubleshoot and service all types of temperature control devices.
•Performs service tests and balance procedures to air and hydronic systems to determine required adjustments. Adjusts assure optimal system operation.
•Diagnose, maintain, and perform service repairs to gas burners. Replaces heat exchangers and component controls. Tests and sets up burner operation to provide proper fuel to air ratios.
•Maintains variable frequency drive applications on pumps and fans.
•Services and repairs humidification systems utilizing steam and/or self-generated applications. Services and repairs plumbing and electrical components of HVAC building systems.
•Provides guidance and training to other maintenance personnel regarding HVAC systems. Performs all duties of the HVAC I mechanic.
•Typical Work hours are Monday- Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm. On-Call hours are required according to the needs of the University. This is an essential position.
Qualifications and Skills
•High School diploma or equivalent.
•6 years progressively responsible experience in any combination of air conditioning, refrigeration, temperature control, steam distribution, or heating trades.
•CFC Refrigerant Certification Types I & II or Universal.
•Ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work at heights up to 35 feet; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 50 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery or equipment; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
•Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience, and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Salary and Benefits
$61,000 annually and full University benefits that includes annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
