Description:
This position will be focusing on the System Layout of Equipment which entails the integration of equipment and installation of tools onsite at GM locations for Trim .
This position is responsible for the development and design of all customers system layouts and provides oversight of engineering suppliers who may be involved in the design and/or engineering process.
The lifecycle goes from Proposal > Design Tools > Build > Integrate > Support > Installation. The focus of this role will be on Installation as they will better understand what info needs to go into the drawings since these Trim systems will be going into GM plants.
They will be responsible for taking the layout and turning it into an Installation drawing. This is VERY Detailed.
Also this person will be doing drawings in front of groups of people. These groups will start off small, but will get bigger. This person MUST be interactive and ask questions and generate dialogue with the customer.
% of Job Duties:
75% time spent on the computer utilizing AutoCAD (3D & 2D) and Factory CAD to design these layouts; also will be transferring files into AutoCAD and/or Factory CAD; scans of the plant could be taken and sent to this person as well to help with layout
25% time spent understanding what goes into these drawings, get in front of customer (GM) to review data, update them, and speak into detail on how this equipment will be laid out in their plant
Essential Functions:
•Coordination of all internal and external integrated layout design activities
•Works closely with Manufacturing, Controls Engineering and Project Management to follow a project from its inception to the final customer acceptance and sign-off, provides follow up and support after this point
•Reviews and releases final engineering drawings to the manufacturing department
•Develop & maintain good relationships with customers & suppliers
•Organizes and participates in system layout review meetings for internal, as well as outsourced, designs
•Gather required project information from Customers & Suppliers to create specifications
•Develops layout specifications for the internal mechanical design by outside vendors; ensures the selected suppliers follow Esys processes and meet project quality and delivery expectations, as well as maintaining the appropriate budget
•Document information, decisions, changes related to system layout, etc. from Customers & Suppliers
•Conduct proper line ups when handing projects off to Esys Integration for Build
•Complete project related purchase requests for system layout work and provide to purchasing
•Travel to Supplier and Customer sites when required
•Provides project specific direction to design suppliers
•Perform design and build buy-offs & quality checks
•Reviews all mechanical engineering drawings prior to final release, ensuring compliance for customer buyoff
•Ensures that Esys products and services continue to be the benchmark within the industry
•Demonstrates a commitment to customer Core Beliefs
•Understand and employ the customers Quality Management System
•Demonstrates a commitment to safe work practices while on Esys or the customer's premises
Travel: 10% to GM Plants to support installation since they will be doing the System Layout. Locations include Detroit Hamtramack, Orion, Ft Wayne, Arlington, and Silau, MX

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
MUST Haves:
•At least 3 years of AutoCAD experience
•Previous experience designing in 2D & 3D (3D could be Factory CAD or another 3D cad system)
•Previous experience designing layouts in automation assembly tooling (ideally General Assembly, Body Assembly or Robotic cells)
•Previous experience designing in automotive or manufacturing
•Experience or knowledge of layout of manufacturing equipment
