JOB TITLE: College and Career Transitions Coordinator

Adult Education Program

REPORTS TO: Department Specialist, Adult Education and Family

Literacy Programs

Base Salary:

$54,035.00

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New hire experience:

$500 for each full-time year of certified teaching

or verified like experience

New hire education:

$65/hour of graduate level credits: BA 45 hours max,

MA 60 hours max $1000 for advanced degrees

Class/Calendar:

Certified Exempt, 187 workdays

Candidates must complete an on-line application which requires appropriate Arizona certification, valid IVP Arizona fingerprint clearance card, evidence of highly qualified status, three letters of recommendation, and transcript of credits.

OVERVIEW:

The College and Career Readiness Coordinator is a liaison between adult education instructors, Mesa Public Schools (MPS) and the MPS Adult Education Program, the Department of Education/Adult Education Services and Workforce partners as defined by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The coordinator provides support to adult education staff in the incorporation of college and career readiness skills in instruction and assists adult students with their transition to college and/or career. He/she builds and maintains collaborations with post-secondary institutions, employers, community-based organization, and workforce partners.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) with a focus in Education, Administration or related field
  • Three years of teaching experience
  • Able to obtain or currently holds an AZ Adult Education Certificate
  • Knowledge and understanding of requirements of Adult Education Providers under WIOA
  • Knowledge and understanding of effective strategies for instructing diverse learners
  • Knowledge of national and state standards and trends concerning instructional methods, resources and strategies related to college/career transitions
  • Knowledge of and understanding of Integrated Education and Training Programs in Adult Education
  • Expertise in building collaborations with post-secondary institutions, employers, community-based organizations and workforce partners
  • Knowledge and understanding of resources to support students to identify and implement their educational and career plans
  • Effective communication, planning, organization, presentation, and leadership skills; ability to work with and motivate others
  • Experience working with instructional and leadership teams
  • Evidence of proficiency with technology including presentation equipment, and a willingness to use technology innovatively and integrated into instruction and presentation
  • Ability to plan and present information/training for the adult learner
  • Ability to quickly assimilate programs/processes and apply to a variety of situations
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently without constant supervision and under stressful timelines
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective professional relationships with teachers, administrators, students, and community
  • Ability and willingness to work outside the traditional teacher working hours and calendar, including evenings, weekends, and summers
  • Ability to perform moderate physical tasks (e.g. lifting 50 pounds of books)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The College and Career Readiness Coordinator works in conjunction with adult education program leadership, district departments and the Arizona Department of Education/Adult Education Services to enhance students’ transition from the adult education program to post-secondary education, training, or the workforce. The coordinator also represents the program to post-secondary institutions, workforce partners, community-based organizations and employers. The coordinator:

  • Develops, leads, and provides oversight of the Integrated Education and Training programs
  • Collaborates with the adult education administrative team to analyze data, identify trends, and create plans for improvement
  • Designs and facilitates courses for professional learning related to workforce skills, and communicates with the department specialist as needed
  • Observes teachers, conducts feedback/evaluation conferences to help educators incorporate college and career readiness skills in instruction
  • Works with students to identify and plan the appropriate next steps for implementing their educational and career goals
  • Follows up on student progress toward goals after exiting the program
  • Provides leadership for program projects as needed
  • Models direct, explicit, systematic instruction including effective teaching techniques and strategies related to college and career readiness
  • Understand and interprets assessment data, both formal and informal, to inform instructional decisions
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with post-secondary institutions, employers, community-based organizations and workforce partners
  • Attends and participates in ADE and Workforce meetings and trainings as needed
  • Increases and enhances own professional knowledge, skills and expertise about college and career readiness
  • Exhibits professional attitude, appearance and demeanor
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the work unit.
