POSITION SUMMARY:
The Regional Continuous Improvement Manager (Regional CI Manager) is responsible for partnering with Regional Leaders and Plant Management Teams to develop and execute long-term growth and continuous improvement strategies. They will support multiple sites on various improvement initiatives, solving complex operational problems, optimizing time standards, eliminating production waste, building lean leadership capability, and assisting in capital projects through the AFE process (Approval for Expenditures).
Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead large cross functional initiatives related to the development and delivery of the next generation of high-performance operating systems that have a network-wide impact.
  • Assist leadership teams in the planning, development, coordination, support, and execution of high impact (immediate and long term) improvement plans for effective and sustainable cost saving initiatives.
  • Act as a change agent leader in instilling a Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement culture at each site and in related areas of the company.
  • Coach and mentor employees on the practical application of lean manufacturing systems and CI initiatives.
  • Invent, design, and implement engineering solutions to complex processing efficiency problems.
  • Review plant data to identify impactful operational opportunities and drive process improvements include time studies, workflow, standard operating procedures, and proposing equipment upgrades.
  • Collaborate with various teams to generate high quality, cost effective solutions in short periods of time, and simultaneously manage multiple projects while effectively influencing internal business partners.
  • Support capital projects as needed - design, quotes, and help manage AFE through completion.
  • Provide input to development of the capital budget for each site.
  • Participate in and support quality projects and initiatives to ensure that the company achieves its goals.
METRICS TO MEASURE PERFORMANCE:
  • Each Sites Quality / Productivity / Delivery / Cost Performance
  • Improvements made on:
    • Productivity increases in Turnaround and Throughput at each site
    • Overall capacity of each site
    • Cost Savings
    • AFE business case verification
HABITS OF THE SUCCESSFUL REGIONAL CI MANAGER:
  • Extensive use of advanced problem solving to significantly impact improvement projects.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize based on business needs.
  • Influence multiple functions and at multiple organization levels, both at the plant and corporate.
  • Ability to overcome resistance to organizational change, influencing both hourly and salaried employees to embrace it while leading multiple change initiatives.
  • Requires high level of plant floor presence to establish extensive knowledge of processes and opportunities for improvement. Engaging employees at all levels in identifying solutions.
  • Must be able to present relatively complex continuous improvement concepts effectively to diverse groups ranging from hourly production employees to leadership team members.
  • Utilize lean methodologies, evaluate application of each and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Conduct facility walks to identifying production waste and improvement opportunities.
  • Attend daily production meetings, supervisory toolbox talks and maintenance reviews.
  • Lead continuous improvement events such as Kaizens, 5S, Kanban, Root Cause, and other CI efforts.
  • Support the development and deployment of each site's operational strategy.
  • Work with employees to perform and understand work processes and hazards.
  • Actively solicit feedback from leaders, peers and subordinates.
  • Facilitate kaizen improvement events to help solve problems and eliminate production waste.
  • Become proficient in use of Marmon Toolbox.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field such as Industrial Engineering or Process Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of related work experience in a lean manufacturing/repair environment with supervisory leadership skills.
  • Five year's experience working with employees at all levels on Lean/CI improvement methodologies.
  • Experience leading or supporting multiple sites required. Experience deploying transactional lean, manufacturing lean, and variation reduction methodologies.
  • Strong project management; can set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Solid mathematical and analytical skills combined with the ability to read and understand precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
  • Tenacity for identifying opportunities for improvements and developing solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of machines and tools, their designs, and uses.
  • Management and team-building experience.
