South slope Communications is Hiring an Installation and Repair Technician Near North Liberty, IA

The Installation & Repair Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, and testing residential and business services including phone, cable, and internet (broadband) services supporting both South Slope and customer networks. The Installation & Repair Technician is responsible for evaluating customers’ needs and installing (home network equipment) focused on providing solutions to connectivity issues. This position includes but it is not limited to locating network facilities and pinpointing the path of cables, pipes and other conduits that carry underground utilities, as well as installing, testing and maintaining wired or wireless equipment. installing, preparing, splicing, and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic cables and systems.

  • Must have a strong attention to detail.
  • Must have a high level of accuracy and ability to follow instructions.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with limited supervision and in a team setting.
  • Must be willing to work both standard working hours and non-standard hours to meet work demands.
  • Must have good organization and communication skills with a positive attitude.
  • Must have respect for both internal and external customers and work closely with schedulers.
  • Effectively communicates technical information to contractors, customers, and related staff.
  • Demonstrated self-starter and team player.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Install, repair, and maintain residential cabling for internet and cable services.
  • Understand how to install CO and field equipment such as SFP’s, splitters, PON’s, cabinets and ONT’s.
  • Ability to comprehend counts on our maps and accurately splice mainline and fiber to the home fiber.
  • Ability to use necessary equipment to accurately troubleshoot, maintain and clean fiber optic cable.
  • Accurately run fiber jumper in the CO’s, cabinet and at the customer’s premises.
  • Must be able to accurately diagnose and troubleshoot wired and wireless troubles.
  • Troubleshoots a variety of residential and commercial equipment/cable/network issues.
  • Accurately locates network facilities utilizing electronic locating equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize work daily workload with limited direction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safety rules and regulations.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions.
  • May be required to attend work related events and trainings during work hours.

Education:

High school diploma required.

Experience:

  • At least 5-7 years of experience in Telecommunications preferred.
  • At least 1 year of Utility Locating preferred.

Standard Working Hours:

  • Monday thru Friday (11:30 am to 8:00 pm)
  • 40 hours per week with occasional overtime requirement to support business needs and a possible on-call rotation. Occasional overnight travel may be required for training/education.

Work environment:

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, noise and temperature extremes.
  • Position involves frequent bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching below and above shoulders, and some lifting while performing job duties.
  • Wrist, hand and finger dexterity is required to operate various equipment/tools.
