POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the vitality of all extracurricular activities at ZWMS including: selection and supervision of athletic coaches and club sponsors; the procurement, distribution, and maintenance of equipment; scheduling of contests, event workers, etc.; contracting of officials; coordination of all contest arrangements; and the general administrative oversight of extracurricular activities, students, coaches, and events at ZWMS. 

Essential Functions:

1. Organize, direct, conduct, and evaluate a robust program of athletics and extracurricular activities that positively impacts the development of students and contributes to the culture of the school.
2. Maintain open and regular communication between the principal and athletic director to keep him/her informed about all aspects of the program. 
3. Maintain proactive communication with community, staff, and students.
4. Always ensure and promote the physical, social, emotional, and academic health and welfare of the student athletes in all areas.
5. Promote academic progress and achievement and always stress the importance of academics in the realm of student-athletes.
6. Provide oversight of scheduling matters related to contests, practices, clubs, events, community use of facilities, camps, etc.
7. Hire, assign, and give direction to workers at athletic events, such as: officials, ticket sellers, clock operators, event assistants, announcers, law enforcement officers, etc.
8. Establish and administer department budgets to ensure the financial compliance and integrity of the athletic department.
9. Supervise the selection and purchase of equipment and supplies, and the care of athletic equipment. Maintain an inventory of all equipment belonging to the athletic department.
10. Supervise the care and condition of court, field, track and related facilities. Arrange for the preparation of the playing area prior to a contest.
11. Supervise home athletic contests and select away contests.Participate effectively in recruiting, selecting, and orienting new members of the coaching staff.
12. Participate effectively in recruiting, selecting, and orienting new members of the coaching staff. Supervise, direct and conduct a program of staff evaluation for all employees assigned athletic coaching responsibilities.
13. Coordinate and arrange accommodations for visiting teams and contest officials.
14. Oversee and supervise concession stand operations and keep appropriate records of sales, inventory, and orders.
15. Coordinate and monitor transportation schedules for athletic teams.
16. Ensure strict compliance with Title IX and promote gender equity in general.
17. Coordinate the organization, leadership, curriculum design, and oversight of student-athletic leadership program.
18. Provide administrative oversight of compliance in regard to coaches’ education requirements.
19. Participate in providing content, oversight, and direction of the athletics website, athletic handbook, athletics social media sites, record boards, and other recognition platforms.
20. Participate in the preparation, planning, and overall execution of ZCS coaches meeting and functions.
21. Attend and provide support for Zionsville Athletic Booster Club meetings and functions.
22. Other duties, which may be assigned by the building principal, and/or superintendent.
