The Cardiovascular Technician in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, under the direction of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab Manager and the Cardiac Catheterization Lab Director, is responsible to assist in the care of patients undergoing Cardiac Cath Lab procedures. The Invasive Cardiovascular Technician must have specialized training in the use of high-technology equipment that is used to diagnose and treat Cardiac disease.

1. Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.
2. Able to setup, troubleshoot and operate all biomedical equipment used in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
   1. Monitor and record service visits and arrange for repairs as needed.
   2. Maintain quality control of equipment.
   3. Operate and adjust x-ray equipment as needed.
3. Competent in hemodynamic monitoring.
4. Assist in receiving and preparing patient for the procedure.
   1. Assist with transport of the patient as needed.
   2. Able to assist the physician during the procedure as needed.
   3. Able to respond to emergency situations that may occur during the procedure in accordance with ACLS guidelines.
5. Maintain adequate inventory levels at all times.
   1. Utilizes equipment check-off sheet to identify stock levels daily.
   2. Notifies supervisor of stock replacement needs.
6. Skills and abilities required:
   1. Must have an understanding of cardiovascular pathophysiology.
   2. Able to demonstrate surgical asepsis.
   3. Has an understanding of medical terminology.
   4. Able to work well independently, as well as part of a team.
   5. Ability to work well under pressure and respond to emergencies.
   6. Attention to detail and ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems.
7. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his /her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
   1. All required safety education programs have been attended.
   2. Provides complete and accurate responses to safety questions.
   3. Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.
   4. Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by department standards.
   5. Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.
   6. If Manager/Leader, provides for the safety of department employees.
8. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
   1. Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment.
   2. Ensures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
   3. Attends annual education programs.

EDUCATION

Associates degree in applied sciences and or Radiological Technology Degree required.

EXPERIENCE

At least one year of Cardiac Catheterization Lab experience required.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

CVT certification preferred. CPR, ACLS, IABP certification required. Candidate will be required to go to Yale New Haven Hospital for training and education as needed.
