Description
Are you a skilled technician with a passion for ensuring the smooth operation of water supply and distribution systems? We are seeking an Intermediate-level Water Operator II to join our team and take a leadership role in maintaining and enhancing our city's vital infrastructure. Under moderate supervision, you will perform and lead a range of complex tasks related to the operations and maintenance of our water systems.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and perform a variety of complex tasks related to the maintenance and repair of water mains, distribution lines, and associated infrastructure.
  • Provide guidance and direction to team members in the field, ensuring that tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Exercise independent judgment and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues and make decisions that ensure the efficient daily operation of water supply and distribution systems.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and other stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for optimizing system performance and minimizing downtime.
  • Assist in training new team members and providing ongoing mentorship and support to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment usage, and regulatory compliance.
  • Respond to emergencies and service disruptions promptly, coordinating with other departments and external agencies as needed.
The City of Wentzville Water Division is hiring for a Water Operator I or II position based on years of experience and certifications.
Water Operator II: The starting Pay Rate for a Water Operator II is $27.95./hr.
Two years of water experience, advanced equipment experience, Distribution II certification and Class B CDL air brakes with tanker endorsement. This position must possess the ability to work independently or as a team member in the water distribution field.
Water Operator I: The starting Pay Rate for a Water Operator I is $26.37/hr.
Must possess a Distribution I or the ability to acquire Class B air brakes with tanker endorsement. This position will work under direct supervision and will train and perform a variety of essential tasks related to the maintenance and operation of the city's water supply and distribution systems.

Qualifications
Job Qualifications - Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.
  • Minimum one year experience in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution system, or other relevant experience required.
  • Job-relevant certification/license, vocational/technical program completion, or completion of apprenticeship preferred.
  • Valid Class A CDL with airbrakes and tanker endorsement preferred, or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment required.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Certification in Water Distribution DS-I testing within 180 days of employment required.

  • Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
