Job Summary
Assigned to Casework Services, Intensive Casework Services or Juvenile Adoptions. Conducts preliminary inquiries with schools, police, and other agencies to gather background information to identify behavioral/emotional problems. Conducts assessment interviews with children and families, performs crisis intervention and follow-up with children and parents, and recommends treatment alternatives which address the particular needs of the client. Prepares reports and progress summaries, refers clients to, and consults with, other programs offered within the community, provides information regarding program services and procedures, and is responsible for case management. May be involved in recruitment, training and working with interns. Depending on the program assignment, may monitor and advise juveniles on probation; may act as a consultant to the community in areas of delinquency prevention programming; may participate with assigned youth on recreational or other extracurricular outings and/or work details; may screen adoptive candidates. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application, applicant must:
1. Have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in criminal justice, psychology, social work, counseling or closely related area; AND
2. Have had one (1) year full-time casework experience involving gathering individual and family social data and developing recommendations within a legal environment.
3. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of Country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.
4. Pass the complete examination, including the employment physical established for this class.
5. Successfully complete the six-month probationary period.
