What are Trust Fund Positions?

Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. These museums will share the experiences and perspectives of Latinos and women across history and deepen our shared understanding of what it means to be American. 

The Office of Advancement oversees and guides the fundraising efforts of the entire Smithsonian and is home to the central advancement organization for the Institution. In addition to raising significant support for a variety of Smithsonian initiatives, the Office of Advancement provides support services to advancement offices across the Institution. The office engages with staff throughout the Smithsonian in accomplishing their goals. 

The Membership Systems Lead works in the Office of Advancement for the Smithsonian Institution. This position manages production and systems support for museums currently in the Smithsonian Membership COOP. It offers the opportunity to work in partnership with a team of dedicated staff while directly serving a diverse group of membership programs. The Membership Systems Lead manages the production schedule and executes jobs to produce data for direct mail, telemarketing, text and online campaigns, regularly scheduled reports, data extracts, and data uploads. This position serves as an in-house expert on the membership portion of the SI Advancement CRM and as the lead programmer for membership-related CRM functions, drafting specifications, writing programs, and creating and executing test plans as part of the development life cycle. Collaborates with business users across Smithsonian Institution membership teams to troubleshoot and resolve membership systems issues.

In addition, the position runs production jobs, including data extracts, reports, and uploads, verifies output and record counts, ensures data accuracy and timely, secure delivery of files. 

Qualified applicants will successfully demonstrate strong SQL (PL/SQL or TOAD), Python, JavaScript and Microsoft Office skills. Familiarity with SSIS, SSRS, ETL tools, Tableau and Salesforce environments is strongly encouraged. Knowledge of and experience with the systems development life cycle, quality assurance, managing multiple deadlines, completing priorities, and demonstrating superior organization skills, are critical. Experience with large, complex membership program(s) is required. Familiarity with Salesforce environments and/or a Salesforce conversion is preferred.
