KTI Staff Mechanical Engineer Requirements June 10th, 2024
I. Fluid Power Competencies:
1. Understand fluid power benefits and limitations.
2. Conceptual and theoretical understanding of fluid power laws and principles (including energy transfer and power efficiency).
3. Understand fluid power components and circuits.
4. Understand the impact of fluid properties, i.e., fluid viscosity, on fluid power system efficiency and performance.
5. Understand machine level requirements and translate into fluid power system requirements.
6. Apply design, simulation and analysis tools to fluid power components and systems.
7. Appropriately size components in fluid power systems.
8. Integrate sensing and electronic control functions with fluid power components and systems.
9. Cite hands-on experience with fluid power components and systems.
10. Inspect, analyze, and develop corrective action for product failure.
II. General Engineering Competencies.
1. Develop a Culture of Safety in self and others.
2. Perform Solid Modeling, Drawing, and Develop Documentation:
a. Solidworks
b. AutoCad 2D (Draftsight, SolidEdge 2D).
c. Fluid Power Schematics.
d. IEC Style Control Schematics.
e. ASME Drawing Standards, ANSI Y14.X.
f. Document project requirements, assumptions, calculations, and results.
g. Document test, troubleshooting, and investigative findings.
3. Design Components (brackets, couplings, mounts, spacers).
4. Design Assemblies (Design for Manufacturability).
5. Hydraulic Manifold Design/Development/Production.
III. General Engineering Requirements.
a. Familiarity with Fluid Power Standards (NFPA, IFPS, ISO, SAE).
b. Provide Production Support.
c. Provide Purchasing Support.
d. Support Quality Assurance, as needed.
e. Perform Hydraulic Power Unit Testing.
f. Perform Hydraulic Component Testing.
g. Perform Test Data Plotting/Presentation.
h. Perform Test Development.
i. Perform Test Equipment Development.
j. Familiarity with Material Standards (ASTM).
k. Familiarity with Coating Standards.
l. Perform Test Actuator Force Analysis (statics/dynamics).
m. Perform Test Component, Frame, Assembly Strength Analysis.
n. Familiarity with Fluid Power Industry Resources (components).
A KTI Associate Mechanical Engineer will have some of the above competencies, with a desire to obtain all above competencies.
