Facilities Development and Management, Office of the University Architect, seeks an Interior Design Project Coordinator to manage and coordinate internal and external teams in preparing and executing the interior design scope of capital projects including but not limited to tenant improvements, site improvements and new construction to ensure they meet the overall goals of the University.

Essential Duties

Serve as the liaison or point of contact for university users, internal staff, architects, consultants and/or vendors to coordinate the interior design scope of capital projects. Develop the scope, budget, schedule, floor plans and other exhibits as needed. Guide internal and external design teams through the documentation of projects and ensures that the goals and objectives specified for the projects are accomplished in accordance with University priorities, time limitations, funding limitations, University standards or other specifications. Control budgets and manage contracts for outside vendors, and coordinate with vendors on design, procurement, installation and warranty of furniture, fixtures and equipment (new or re-used). Participate in the preparation of action plans for leadership teams and leaders to direct and guide space planning and management programs, projects, initiatives or areas of a department/college. Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities and provide work direction to others for completion of project related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 2 years related experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in:

* Working with allied professionals including architects, planners, interior designers, landscape architects, engineers and other specialty consultants.

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Autodesk AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revue and PMIS (Project Management Information Software) programs.

* Managing budgets and inventory of storage of furniture. Ability to work with users to assess their needs and define their scope of work.

* Preparing space layouts and preliminary test fits for presentations and estimations.

* Ability to determine project requirements, feasibility, alternative options and prepare a proposed project scope with rough-order-of-magnitude cost estimates.

Knowledge in:

* Space utilization, facilities planning, interior design principles and construction management processes and procedures.

* Building materials and construction methods.

* Federal and state facility and code requirements. Skill in preparing presentation materials.

* Ability to facilitate and build relationships with multiple stakeholders to resolve issues related to interior planning.

* ADA and applicable building codes. Experience in coordinating interior design elements with the required consultants including landscape architects, historic preservation coordinator, environmental graphics staff, etc.

* LEED and current sustainability concepts.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Evidence of effective communication skills.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Require regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Drives University vehicle and/or cart to campus site.

This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ (on Rural Road south of Apache Blvd).

Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.

This position is dependent on the continuation of funding from a specific source other than state appropriations. As such, this appointment may terminate when the funding is no longer available.
