Job Title : Materials Handler / Load Builder

Job Summary :

The Materials Handler / Load Builder plays a critical role in the efficient operation of a lumber yard by managing materials, preparing orders, and ensuring accuracy in loading and unloading processes.

This position requires a combination of physical stamina, attention to detail, and organizational skills to facilitate the smooth flow of materials and products within the yard.

Responsibilities :

1. Material Handling : Safely and efficiently handle various types of lumber and building materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment as necessary.

2. Order Preparation : Read and interpret order sheets or pick lists to gather required materials for customer orders or for stocking inventory.

4. Inventory Management : Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records by monitoring stock levels, conducting regular cycle counts, and reporting discrepancies.

5. Quality Assurance : Inspect materials for damage or defects before loading, and ensure that orders meet quality standards and customer specifications.

6. Safety Compliance : Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe operating practices for equipment and machinery.

7. Customer Service : Provide courteous and professional assistance to customers during the loading process, including answering questions and addressing concerns.

8. Yard Maintenance : Participate in general housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, organizing, and maintaining the cleanliness of the yard and storage areas.

9. Team Collaboration : Work closely with other team members, including yard supervisors, sales staff, and drivers, to prioritize tasks and ensure timely fulfillment of orders.

Qualifications :

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

2. Previous experience in a similar role within a lumber yard, construction site, or warehouse environment preferred.

3. Forklift certification and experience operating material handling equipment.

4. Strong physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects repeatedly.

5. Attention to detail and accuracy in order fulfillment and load building.

6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

7. Basic math skills for measuring and calculating quantities.

8. Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

9. Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.
