THE SALVATION ARMY CENTRAL TERRITORY is Hiring a Volunteer Services Manager Near St. Louis, MO

The Salvation Army Midland Division is looking for a Volunteer Services Manager. This individual is responsible for comprehensive volunteer recruitment and management policies and procedures. This position is expected to increase volunteerism to raise community awareness and assist Army units in developing meaningful and effective relationships through volunteer opportunities.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, this is a salary position.

Essential Functions

  • This position is the direct supervisor for all employees of the volunteer services team and assigns responsibilities for managing and supervising volunteers.
  • Provide comprehensive oversight of volunteer recruitment and management policies and procedures.
  • Implement and comply with territorial volunteer management policies, and ensure materials, policies and procedures are available and being used to increase volunteerism.
  • Establish annual goals and objectives for the volunteer program.
  • Work with Corps, Institutions and Service Extension Units to identify volunteer needs and produce volunteer job descriptions.
  • Manage a volunteer intake process that ensures all candidates complete an application and an in-person interview and are placed in a role that aligns with their skills and interests.
  • Manage a year-round strategy for corporate and community outreach by attending volunteer recruitment events, school/church visits, professional development groups, and community gatherings.
  • Provide units with assistance managing volunteer recruitment and scheduling for Red Kettles.
  • Work with staff and committees to determine and fill volunteer needs for events throughout the year.
  • Develop and implement a volunteer training and retention program to ensure volunteers are prepared and equipped to complete job assignments successfully.
  • Ensure all volunteers are acknowledged in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and report data and statistics as requested by internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Safe From Harm guidelines.
  • Participate in external events to promote awareness and develop new resources for volunteers.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner, courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients, respect of others' property and person, and professional and appropriate communication to and about clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in management, business, public relations, or related area and four (4) years related work experience with one-year supervisory experience. Will consider a combination of education and experience. Previous supervisory or volunteer management experience is required. Must possess or obtain within this first year of employment a Certification in Volunteer Administration. Multi-site organization experience is a plus. Must be professional, personable, and work well with people. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Requires valid driver's licenses, pass TSA MVR check and reliable transportation. Must have working knowledge and skill in computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and e-mail. Experience with donor database software is a plus. Must be a team player, self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. Ability to work under pressure and deadlines especially during the Tree of Lights campaign. Able to work additional hours as needed (i.e. during the Tree of Lights campaign).

Physical and Working Conditions

Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc., and off-site meeting with volunteer potentials and while on assignment. Work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment, as well as outdoors throughout the year.
