SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the grounds manager, the grounds crew are part of team creating and maintaining excellence of the campus lawns, flower beds, athletic fields, playgrounds, and parking lots.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Campus appearance and first impression
  • All landscaped areas on the 40-acre campus
  • Athletic fields - both practice and game venues
  • Lawn (grass) areas
  • Flower beds and landscaped areas
  • Parking lots, sidewalks, and traffic islands
• Playgrounds
  • Appearance / appeal
  • Adherence of equipment to safety standards, with periodic inspections
  • Repairs in an expedited fashion
• Event preparations
  • Pre & postgame preparations (outdoor sports) working with athletics department
  • Support setups / tear downs for a variety of outdoor events
• Grounds maintenance
  • Maintain Irrigation systems
  • Maintain fencing and pedestrian walkways
  • Maintain parking lots, islands, and curbing
  • Responding to help desk requests in a timely and effective manner
  • Arranging for pest control on playing/practice fields

QUALIFIED APPLICANTS:

• Must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ; be involved with an evangelical, protestant church of like faith and practice; and agree with the philosophies, Statement of Faith, and Statement of Christian Life Commitment of Southside Christian School.
• Have a commitment to the mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of Christian schooling as expressed by Southside Christian School demonstrated by their eligible children enrolled in Southside Christian School.
• Must be a spiritually mature, veteran Christian leader who agrees with the school's Mission, Vision, Values, Biblical Beliefs, Statement of Christian Life Commitment, and Statement of Faith.
• Must be able to articulate a deep understanding of a biblically informed philosophy of Christian education.
• Education: Preferred candidates would have an educational background or equivalent work experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Landscape maintenance - flower beds & landscaped areas
  • Turf management of athletic fields
  • Field preparations for athletic events
  • Irrigation system installation and maintenance
  • Equipment repair and preventative maintenance

  • A desire for excellence in all work performed
  • PC general competency in Tandem, KASE Systems Management Appliance, event management, and time clock software applications
  • Independent, able to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to develop excellent teamwork within the group
  • A customer-service mindset, managing interruptions and still maintaining priorities
  • Ability and willingness to follow the priorities and direction set by the Grounds Manager
• A valid SC driver's license, acceptable DMV record/points, and passing of SLED background check are mandatory. CDL class B with P & S endorsements preferred.
• Physical Requirements: This position is labor-intensive and certain physical requirements must be met in order to be successful. They include the ability to:
  • Lift up to 75 pounds and be able to lift 40-60 pounds repeatedly.
  • Walk over a 40-acre campus with a variety of terrain.
  • Work in temperature extremes and in the direct sun.
  • Climb and work from ladders, including work that is over head
  • Tolerate dusty conditions, such as from grass clippings or from the wood shop.
  • Stoop, bend and maneuver around equipment as needed.
  • Use hand power tools, such as trimmers, saws, air wrenches.
  • Operate mowers, tractors, gators using both hands and feet.
  • See and read warning labels on equipment, as well as operating instructions.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
