This position will be part of the teaching team for Shoreline's I-BEST Certified Nursing Assistant Program. Washington State's Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) model pairs two teachers - a specialist (nurse) teaching specific job skills and an English Language Learning (ELL) and Basic Skills instructor to address learning strategies and continued improvements to English, math and job readiness skills. The teaching team is responsible for integrating curriculum and selecting an appropriate model for shared teaching responsibilities. The program is designed to help English language learners and native speakers with below college-level basic skills to gain skills and credentials for high demand jobs such as NAC positions, while improving their basic skills.

Washington State's Department of Health (DOH) requires that core NAC instruction be provided by an RN with teaching expertise. At the same time, the State Board of Technical and Community Colleges is highly supportive of using the I-BEST model for NAC instruction. Thus, the teaching team needs to use creative approaches to ensure that technical material is presented initially by the RN instructor, with full participation by the ELL/Basic Skills instructor in reinforcing the learning process, developing learning activities, and helping to tailor instructional methods to support student success. Under the general direction of the Dean of Health Occupations and Nursing this position will teach and supervise students as scheduled in classroom, laboratory and/or clinical settings.REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

* Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution

* One (1) year experience within the past three years in caring for the elderly or chronically ill of any age

* One (1) year or more direct supervision of NAC's in the clinical setting

* Professional unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Washington State OR ability to obtain license within 30 days

* Experience with Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional technologies

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

* Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of NAC

* Computer applications for instructional purposes and clinical documentation

* Scope and practice of the NAC's in Washington State

* Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online

* Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness

* Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College

* Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities

* Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently

* Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The College is currently in mixed (both in-person and online instruction) operations, with the option for some assignments to completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.
